Lets Talk About UNDERCUTTERS!!!!

I actually like the tax idea. I usually just never undercut myself. If it's just one person putting something slightly cheaper than my item I just leave my item at its price and it'll eventually sell. If it's like huge severe undercutting sometimes I just buy out their stuff and re-sell. It takes quite a bit of gil to do that constantly though but in my experiences it pays off.

I just remember when first Zodiac quest come and some weeks later I saw on MB 2 retainers competing undercutting the Tailor Made Eel Pie from 70k to 40k. When the price restored to 70k again, this 2 retainers still competing again to 40k. This undercutter really makes me cringe until now.

With the prices I see sometimes on the market board, I glad that happens because the inflation I see on stuff makes me avoid the MB altogether. I'll either say screw it and/or go get it myself.

Having retainers from different markets, I check to see what markets are selling at the lowest price and chose my retainer from the ones not represented. I match the price instead of undercutting. If they buy from them so be it, if they buy from me then great but at least more than one person has a chance to sell at a (hopefully) reasonable price.

I know a lot of people do realize you save fees from buying from the same market as you are from but unfortunately until EVERYONE knows this then the undercutters will still drive prices down looking for the instant sale, preying on the people who don't know(or care) about market fees.

I will admit to undercutting in one situation, when someone blatantly floods the market with 10-15 stacks of 1 or 2 instead of having 2-3 larger stacks(usually food, people mostly buy in stacks of 5 to 10 right?). Using up almost all of a retainer's sale slots for one item seems senseless but oh well.

A tax on list price would be good (taken before sale) would stop people using mb as extra storage and also stop people overpricing

Seeing something go from 42K to 100 Gil in less than a day sends me into a fit of rage.

Most of the ordinary players by now are fulfilled with their priority DoW/M jobs and are reaching into 60DoH/L and supplying in general, in place of buying their usual equipment and disposables. I've been seeing undercutting get more and more aggressive but I'm not surprised by it at all.

Especially when either the mats cost more than the item is selling for, or it takes you quite a long time to gather/craft the mats :/ I remember this one item, brand new, took maybe 30-40 mins to gather and craft the items needed to make it. It was selling for a good 40k-50k, which is reasonable for the time taken to craft it. Within a week people dropped it down to 2k... It wasn't even gradually. It was more like "40k. 39k. 38k. 13k. 9k. 5k. 2k. 2k. 2k."

That's why I've pretty much given up on crafting. People who don't know how to properly undercut end up making the item worthless so it's not worth the time spent to make/farm.

This is why people undercut, because they know there is a certain threshold where people say, "I"d rather get it myself than buy it" For some people even if they make 10k less from it, if they can get those people who would rather gather than pay x price then they succeeded in their objective. They drew in customers that would of just walked away because of the prices and honestly that's how economics works lol.
