Been thinking of this too. I'd love a fanfiction section. Might try a few test runs of writing in my lodestone page. Even if it has to adhere to the rules and guidelines of the forums. Some of the best fanfics worth reading actually start on a message board. :)
The thing is a particularly long fanfic needs to be saved just in case some arguments occur and the mods step in
And of course, the more "mature"(?) brands of fanfics will have to be on other sites.
I guess one problem would be where the line would be on mature content. No one wants to risk a ban being creative.

I don't think the OF even has a section for posting fan art and any other fan-created media

I get the feeling I once read a response to this wish, although maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.
If I remember it right, it went something like this:
"We apprechiate fanworks of all kinds including fanfiction and character's blogs, but the right place for them is in on the Lodestone in the personal blogs."
No guarantee that it's right though, I don't trust my memories on something so long ago xD

Some roleplayers have fanfics of their game characters in the Lodestone blog area. A forum wouldn't be a very good format for writing one, but could be a nice place to provide links to your fanfics so other players can find them. And I love some of the fan art that pops up from time to time here.

It's been way overdue for us to have a place where we could ship our ships like Thancred/Minfilia or Estinien/Ysayle, and write borderline deranged softporn Rhaubann/Nanamo.

Wouldn't a separate fan run website that you could direct people to be better for this in the long run? That way you wouldn't have to worry about unintentionally violating any forum rules and could contribute more fan related content (art, etc)?
I was always under the impression that fan related content was up to the fans not the development team to create spaces for.
Edit: post above mine already points out that the lodestone supports such features as well
