SE's Contradictory crafting.

We don't have everything yet.

We won't know what we're really lacking until next week, the 22nd I believe. We know we are getting better Scrip gear, better crafted combat gear, presumably better crafted crafting/gathering gear, and who knows what else.

As for tokens, they're just a different format. Rather than crafting a few really hard items, they gave us the Collectible and Scrip systems.

And this, my Friends, is why Crafting in XIV is basicall Crap and obsolet if you can play a Magic/Fighter Class....

Lay it to Rest already or revamp it completely....

Or have fun with it knowing that its not going to amount to a hill of beans for the combat classes? Yup.

Meh, not really.

All you needed to craft tokens for a weaver was a weaver, barring of course the cross class skills that made it much easier.

Yeah that's what I ended up doing, before even reading this. I had juuuuuuuust enough leves remaining to use titanium stuff to finish armorer to 60, which was the last of my crafters :)

You can make the dissolvents with level 50 alchemy (and you should have level 50 alchemy for comfort zone no matter what craft you like), so it's not that much of an issue. It is annoying though, the materials for the dissolvents are annoying.

That's what high level retainers are for though. Although not all of the materials can be gathered by them (Blue Coral being the most annoying) they can get most of the materials. Plan ahead!

They cant get titanium, adamantite, birch (logs), hardsilver ore, to name a few. And these are the basic components for several levels of crafting.
With 3.0 gathering retainers have become a lot less useful. (I only send my botanist on quick ventures at this point, or to collect cooking items)

My post was mainly addressed at the Dissolvents. Deepeye Tears, Bear Fat, Sprig of Mist Dill, Wyvern Wing can all be retainer'd. Blue Cloud Coral and Mogpom cannot be obtained through retainers. Volcanic Rock Salt .. I've gotten a ton of it prior to 3.0 on the 18 hour Ventures, but it cannot be targeted specifically for a 1 hour Venture.

That said ..

Titanium :
5 Titanium Ore, 1 Iron Ore, 1 Grenade Ash, 4 Cloud Mica

Titanium Ore is the only thing you cannot send a Retainer out for.

Adamantite :
5 Adamantite Ore, 1 Darksteel Ore

Yea, you have to gather everything yourself.

Birch :
5 Birch Logs

Yea, you have to gather these yourself

Hardsilver :
5 Hardsilver Sand, 1 Silver Ore, 4 Hardsilver Ore

Hardsilver Ore is the only thing you cannot send a Retainer out for.

It sucks having to go gather those Hidden items. I'm very well aware of that.
