This is what I am afraid of. If everyone starts using them because their stats are do good they replace all other endgame weapons. The image of the game will then change.
Betelgeuzah is correct too. Final Fantasy is a more realistic MMO, this is why I chose to play FFXI over WoW because FFXI has a more realistic and impactful look to it where as Aion and WoW look like they are for much younger people with short attention spans.
Why? Because they wanted to finally implement some neat looking gear that actually relates to the encounter it comes from?
I don't know whether to ignore you because your going to keep instigating or reply once but I will say that it is fine for them to introduce stuff that has to do with the battle, however the way they approached it is unpolished and unprofessional in my opinion as a fellow designer. It is more of a literal iteration of the battle than a more elegant and sophisticated solution. This seems more of first choice situation due to budget or time.
This is why some of us say it looks like something from a Korean MMO or other known western MMO's.
Their culture does have a lot of influence from anime however it is a little misguided to say these items are because of that. When I played FFXI (2003-2008) I never saw outrageous items so their anime addiction never butted into that.
Some free to play games with small staffs and such do the big weapon design to be flashy and stuff. Those are Korean also though I think. Revealing clothing and huge flashy weapons. It's like they need it to sell it.
I've always championed Final Fantasy because they usually go for Practicality in their items along with breaking away from tradition a little bit. Its that fun line between conservatism (which is also a Japanese quality) and openness. Everything is usually very calculated and thought through. That's why these new weapons alarm me so much. They are too much unlike this game is styled.
