It's not so much villainous clichés (though that's definitely a part of it), but all the Ascians we've met so far are overwhelmingly arrogant. Even Elidibus, in his own way.
Igeyorhm simply felt like we weren't worth the time or effort to actually kill. It's not until we regain our blessing and are so powerful within it that they realize letting us live was probably not a very prudent decision. -

Back to point one, I feel like the Ascians really can't make up their minds on what they want to do with us. Hopefully with the three Leeroy Jenkins' gone, Elidibus can take charge and the Ascians can have a single, clear cut goal on what they want to do. -

iirc, we are not near any edges of the island. Perhaps whatever knockback spell she had wouldn't be as effective against a resisting opponent?
I gather though its mostly storytelling and the ascians' confidence in their immortality. A barking dog chained up is annoying, but you don't expect it to kill you, right? -

I am of the opinion that they're somehow "contractually obligated" to not harm/ kill people of Hydaelyn (the planet/world they're in). Kinda like how Nabriales went all out when he learned the WoL didn't have the Blessing anymore.
That and he was repeatedly "warning" Moenbryda to not harm him, but she attacked and Nabriales killed her in "self defense"
