I think that they probably don't want us to solo queue?
I'd also heard (may be wrong) that they'd wanted to give us human companions but the AI was so wonky and simplistic that the companion didn't act human at all. So war bird it is!
Yoshi meantioned that they were working on something for chocobos and magitek armor in LLXXIII. I'm hoping to bring my chocobo into a dungeon or PvP. They had talked about chocobos in PvP waaaay back at launch, but haven't said anything about it in quite awhile.
Retainer companion is my first thought, cap them at equal to the player's level and let us gear them up appropriately, if the gear is much higher than the level if you switch classes, just decrease the stats on the gear like the system that weakens gear when you queue for a lower level dungeon.
My brave companion die when Bahamut broke losse.
While I don't like chocobos as companions, the idea is cool. I just want to have a person as a partner.
I think this could be a fun feature using a gambit system like ffxii to control the companion!
We can do undersized parties, though. And some of the instances in Heavensward feel as if they were experimenting with NPC AI for combat situations to me. Reminded me of the Gambit System.
I'd love to take my retainer into a dungeon with me, even if it's just one. Especially lower-level dungeons that guarantee an hour-long queue for any role, if I'm looking to give my retainer experience points, even if there's a cap of some sort. It'd be nice to see them in action and using the gear that you gave them.
On that note, a battle companion besides my chocobo would be amazing. At first, I was happy to ride him around and have him dole out a little extra damage or healing when I was alone. But I've really come to hate that stupid bird.
I do remember them saying something about letting us go into dungeons with Chocobos but I doubt thatll happen anytime soon. As for companions, sounds too much like SWTOR but without the good story-driven parts. Not that id mind either way, so long as the games solo content isnt balanced with companions in mind. I hated that about SWTOR... played the baddest Sith since Revan... could barely handle a handful of Republic troops without help. Dam that.
