The people who have 100% fully justified reasons to gripe: Pre-ordered their copies and they got caught in customs and they got unfairly locked out. I really feel for you guys, that was totally cruel to not expand the early access codes to cover until your real codes arrived. One week was not long enough at all.
People griping over level gating, story gating, etc: The way HW is written, you frankly can't appreciate it until you've gone through all of ARR first. Stuff happens in HW that requires the 2.5 quests as they are written to have occurred. It's not so much an expansion as it is a sequel. ARR was designed in such a way that you didn't have to play 1.0 to pick it up - HW was not.
With that said, 3.0 is an emotional roller coaster and even though people spoiled me I didn't want to believe the spoilers until they happened because it was so sad. I'm at 59 now and I can't wait to see what the last few dungeons all have in store.
Really it gets sad :( I'm only 54 I don't want go on an emotional roller coaster
I agree, there were many times were I teared up :(
It was an amazing journey. They did say it will be darker and with more shades of gray and it did live up to in in my opinion. Whereas 2.0 was a fairly typical hero story with feel good victories, 3.0 was different. Hard to explain, but the victories were just that: victories. Didn't necessarily feel happy about some of them and a feeling of disillusionment and resentment stuck with me throughout.
The story has defiantly improved. I don't know how they manage to fit so much content in such little time with the patches going on left and right.
I've heard of people who ordered the physical copy of the game and have issues once it reaches the borders between the US & Canada. Sadly, that's something that's out of SE's hands and is in the hands of the shipping company and (possibly) customs.
I haven't been able to play for the past week so far. Been getting chronic headaches that are not "migraine level" but cutting on my time to play FF XIV. But, otherwise, I have enjoyed the expansion so far.
I hated 2.x storyline. Tried to get into it so many times and always ended up annoyed and bored, esc'ing through cutscenes. Honestly was expecting to hate 3.0 story... but damn it was good. At the end, while reflecting on everything that happened in the 3.0 story, everything I felt during it hit me all at once and I lost it(cried). Now I can't wait for more. I think the devs really stepped up their game when it comes to the story.
Agreed OP! I'm not very far into it yet, but I'm loving this new voiceover introduction for new areas and the mix of solo-duties with the traditional dungeons I know are coming. The new map designs are interesting too. Ishgard is just plain gorgeous.
