At 55 you get acess to magma worms use those in the mourn for magma fishing. Don't remember foords but 2nd floor exit in dragons tower like you going to the lvl 53 dungeon

SO, the point is to catch 2 of the 3 level 50 fishing leve objectives, you need a lvl. 51 bait. The Stonefly Nymph. There is another pool near the exit to the Forelands you can fish for higher xp critters if you're grinding xp. I'm level 50 fisherman and get 6035 xp from the Ice Faire I catch there.
AND, to catch the Grass Carp for the level 52 leve, you need a lvl 55 bait.

So, if you want to level Fisher, I recommend figuring out how Collectibles work and grinding up the lowest level fish you can because with one exception (so far) you aren't high enough level to use the bait you need.

Stonefly Nymph is level 51 bait and you need to be level 51 to use. So if you're only level 50, the crabs are the only thing you can catch til you're 51.

The Grass carp does not need a 55 Hook, Grass carp can only be caught during cloudy, foggy or dust storms. BUT what does need a 58 bait(goblin rig) is the Three Lip Carp, and thats for a level 52 leve, so yeah figure that out lol. Data from ff14angler.com

I'm trying to catch the three-lip carp right now. I'm level 52, and it's for a level 52 levequest. If these things really do require a level 58 lure, someone screwed up somewhere. This fish should not be for a level 52 levequest. I've been fishing in the Wilhom river for a while now and all I catch are Blueclaw Shrimp and Catfish. This is with Stonefly Nymph bait.

Quite a few of the fish for lower level leves need the level 58 Goblin Jig to catch. Three-lip Carp being the most annoying since it is only a level 52 leve. The Sweetfish needed to do one of the lower level Cul quests also needs the Goblin Jig, which was infuriating to me at the time. The Goblin Jig in general is just a horribly placed lure, level-wise. It needs to be a level 52 lure using lesser mats (Mythrite Ingot x2 and Hardsilver Nugget x2 would be better).

I should be able to complete a level 52 levequest at level 52 by catching the fish myself, not buying them off the market board. This is completely ridiculous, Square Enix!

Why are the fishing leves so jacked? I mean, is this seriously intended? Makes zero sense.

But why is it a Lv50 levequest when you need a Lv51 Bait? it should be lv51 not a level 50.

Now why is there is this Lv52 Levequest but it now needs Lv 58/60 Lures this is a stupid lv 52 should be able to get if done at lv52 not lv 58.

So if it really does need some higher level bait or lure it should be that level levequest not a lower level levequest.! fix this already

Got to level 58. Got a Goblin jig lure. Went to Dravanian Forelands and fished up a ton of three-lip carp with ease. Now I can easily complete my level 52 levequest, but why would I want to? I'm level 59, almost level 60. I get more exp from GC daily turn-ins and collectables (Illuminati perch FTW) now. It would have been nice to be able to catch this fish back when it was useful to me.

Just encountered this.

I will say that it's dirt cheap to just buy NQ Blueclaw Shrimp off the market boards on my server (200 gil each) and spam that along with the one you can actually catch to get to 51.
