Real Time airship rides

I read your OP and all of your replies and I still stand by my point. Even if it were something optional, very few people would actually use it. For those who wanted it, the novelty would wear off pretty fast when they began to recall exactly why real-time rides sucked and they would probably stop riding too. There is no real variety, fun, or excitement in running to the airship (hoping it doesn't leave right when you get there), waiting for it to depart, and then having to wait another 10-15 minutes for it to reach your destination.

You can simulate that right now: Go to a nation's airship dock, afk for 10 minutes, and then fly to the nation of your choice. Add 15+ extra minutes to simulate missing your ride and having to wait for the ship to come back.

i would like 'sightseeing' tours. It could be something not meant for travel, but litterally just to enjoy the sights. See the world you're in, take a break from the rush and hustle for fifteen minutes on a leisurely airship cruise around the realm.

It's because of people like you that MMO's are so devoid of life in the open worlds, btw you're example sucked.. Hears exactly what I'm getting at, they can add interesting events and fates to spice things up, we can play triple triad with other players hell just enjoy the scenery through the skies and if you missed a ride just simply fucking port, you act as if I'm asking them to remove teleports, when I'm just asking for another viable alternative for others who enjoy these types of things.

I think the era of real-time rides in the open world are over. However I would like to see them add real time rides in a quest line. You would board, ride for awhile, a boss would appear, kill the boss, then wait to arrive at destination. This has been done before, so I imagine they could do it again. It would be amazing to do on a Ishgardian airship or maybe even a Garlean train. Could you imagine fighting an enemy on the top of a moving Garlean train?

No, people like me just appreciate work put into an immersive world that doesn't wind up being a nostalgia-fueled waste of resources. I would love an open world so long as you have reason to go there more than a handful of times or don't wind up loathing having to travel to it. Something like FFXI's airships would wind up being a ghost town after the first week when the nostalgia wore off unless SE went out of their way to force you to use them.

My example is exactly what it was like dealing with the ferries and airships in FFXI. It was nothing but a lot of waiting around so that you could wait around even more on an empty instanced airship that "flew" just long enough to waste your time, but not quite long enough to get anything done. It was like playing an Airport Simulator, only without the crappy in-flight movie and impossible to open bags of peanuts.

I have an idea. Maybe next time lay out all of your thoughts in your first post. A roaming airship that you could use for events would be nice (but not one that regularly has to dock unless you enjoy the idea of having your FATEs and TT games suddenly cut off). All of your other posts convey the want of the addition of a glorified waiting room, which is all the original airship amounted to.

There's a difference between being in a hurry and not wanting SE to go back to padding my playtime with a ton of unnecessary waiting because we have enough of that already.

Miss this too, loved seeing airships overhead and knowing I could ride one too (and be there, up there). Really makes the world feel living to have real transportation, imo. Also it doesn't have to be a FFXI amount, that is a common rebuttal but a false and sensational one.. WoW had something like that and it was significantly less wait time than FFXI.
