TBH, before I played FFXIV I wanted it to be F2P. I then sucked it up, bought it and never wished for it to be F2P.
I've played SWTOR, TERA (when it went F2P), GW2, FFXI, and a few others. FFXI was the most stable of the games I played. You could level fine in SWTOR, but you were absolutely screwed end game because of the restrictions. TERA just sucked. GW2 was another offender of "useless" content. They would add to this "Living Story" and then 2 months later just bin the story and then release the next part. New players couldn't ever experience what came before. Plus GW2 made the worst ever changes to newcomers but that's going off track.
FFXIV has always known what it's got to do to please customers and how to achieve that. I've never felt like I've "wasted" a month in the game because something is regularly being added. I could only imagine the $&*"storm if this game DID go F2P.
I'm up for attracting new potential players, but not at the cost of the game's stability.
Wildstar was pretty much a failure since day-one so it isn't a surprise for it to go F2P it was either going F2P or die so they went F2P. As long as FF14 does well there is little to worry about it going F2P and if it follows FF11 path it'll never go down the F2P path at all.
Wildstar's company behind it are not willing to take a loss or low profits then they expect.
FF14's company behind it ARE wiling to take a loss or lower then expected profits.
Thats the only difference between them. Neither is objectively the better game. Each has its pros and cons. Thier base gameplay feels quite different too with WILDSTAR being alot faster and FF14 being more stylized.
F2P as a model is just better and more successful for western games. Some F2p games are ruined but alot are very good and the amount of good f2p games will just increase as time goes on.
Besides If you love sub ff14. Whats the problem with other games going F2P? Now you can try these f2p mmos for fun, with it costing you nothing.
I have to disagree with this statement, I've played plenty of F2P games, and for the most part they were bad-terrible, and most people dont stay on F2P games from what I've seen including myself, I prefer the P2P model due to the fact the company can operate a more stable schedule for updates and improvements (example heavensward).
Well your opinion will get outdated as time goes on. Because things change and technology improves. F2P was bad and unstable previously but it will just get better and more stable.
Yes SE cares about their company image alot more then NCSOFT they will never go f2p. NCSOFT primary model is f2p too.Quote:
What do you mean even Wildstar? Did anyone really ever expect anything else from NCsoft?
