Been confused on who i'm supposed to heal in 8 man stuff

I sometimes go afk at start to see if my co healer is capable of keeping ppl alive etc. if the tank drops in the 1st 10 seconds then i know i probably cannot trust my co healer in healing, the tank isn't using cds right or both lol.
Especially if they r rocking that WoD gear / i130 poetic stuff.
Doesn't matter if they r sch i've seen schs solo heal and mitigate dmg before big hits all the time.

But healing in 8 mans can be tricky when shit hits the fan and most things u learned/ was taught doesn't apply.
Then priorities come to mind and ur like r.i.p im going to have to sacrifice a dps to keep tank alive.

XD its easier to just experience it urself as u progress.
Heal smaller encounters then work ur way up rather than just going gung ho on 8 man stuff.
Unless its a CT raid lol, day 1 and u can get away with spamming heals like ur some heal bot set on follow to tanks.

I had this confusion when I started raiding. The answer is, unless you're specifically assigned something or someone then you heal whoever needs it. You need to keep the general priority list that you learned in dungeons (tanks/heals/dps) but stretch that a bit. You'll be healing the tanks the most hands down so you really shouldn't worry about over heals or stopping heals. If more than a couple people need healing then use your AOE heals. The only time that it's annoying is when you're popping CDs like Benediction and it's wasted but otherwise don't worry about it.

It's kind of hard to explain or maybe it's just too simple to really explain. You'll get the feel of a fight and how the tanks are able to stand up to the damage and how stupid the DPS are (standing in bad or pulling the aggro) really quick so you adjust your style. It's a sense you'll develop.

Just ignore the cohealer and do whatever. If you suck, then the other healer will complain. If you both suck, then the party will wipe and everyone will complain. As long as nobody is complaining, you're fine. If both healers start the raid fights in cleric stance, then you know it's going to be harder because neither healer is prioritizing healing.

As a healer you should be putting healing before DPS, because healing works a lot better in tandem (eg Cure I + Psysick is less MP intensive than you using Cure II on everyone.) That said, everyone is overgeared, so unless you're playing Coil, with the current gear people have, most content should be solo-healer capable.

And remember, if players are playing bad on purpose, you don't need to pull their butt out of the fire every single time. If someone keeps dying, then it's actually easier for the Scholar to keep resurrecting them if they are using Aetherflow frequently (60 second cooldown, instant effect,) than it is the WHM to keep raising dead players, since the WHM would have up to 2 minutes of cooldown plus have to wait for the MP to recover before casting raise from 0 MP.

The only real difference in 24-person raids over light parties is that only one party's tank is "main tank", so if you're in that party, one healer should be prioritizing the tank because delaying their healing might wipe the raid. If you're in any of the other parties, then know the mechanics and save the healbombs for incoming damage.

I just play as though I'm the only healer there unless they're notably beating me out and making my heals redundant. Though, I tend to step on SCH fae heals feet this way :x

This is false. Its actually best if both healers start in Cleric Stance, over one or both not starting in Cleric Stance then activating it later. Why? Obviously because it will be off cooldown when you need it and you can get your DPS out at the beginning when no one needs healing. A Healer who doesn't start a fight in Cleric Stance is being less efficient. It isn't bad to not start in it, its just better to start in it because no one needs healing in the first few attacks of the fight.

Just because a healer is in CS doesn't mean they are prioritizing DPS over healing, Tenshi just dislikes Healers who DPS so she likes to demonize it as much as possible.

This is very true. To expand on this: A SCH is the best for rezzing because of their non-MP issues. If a SCH is making a WHM do all of it they are bad/not a good team player.

No what I dislike are healers who start the raid in CS, and -NEVER- switch out of it. Because those are the healers who end up taking dirt naps when they've burned through their entire MP and can't even save themselves. Oh ye gawds the horror of the DPS-SCH who thinks the fairy can carry them.

When playing SCH I usually aim to try and resurrect the players first. When playing as WHM I pick the target from the bottom of the list first if it's not a tank that has died.

I try to see where the fairy is and keep it in sight since if the fairy dies, then the SCH is playing extremely ineffectively.

I assume I'm the only healer - any help just makes it easier.

Works well.

Besides, since medica ii and regent stack, having more doesn't hurt either.

Also sch shields also work well with whatever whm does - its really a pot of synergy.

Just be confident and heal!

Healing priorities are tank, other healer then dps. Ress priorities are other healer, tank, summoner then other dps. Learn when the big aoes come and when the single target spikes come. A long time ago, when gear was weaker and people were less lazy, there were some unwritten common sense rules, but nowadays its just whack a mole for random and follow the script for fixed damage.

Tanks and healers have priority when it comes to heals, don't forget to keep an eye on your own hp too :) welcome to the healing club!
