Accurate Egi Models as Optional Items

If you like it, that's fine, but it doesn't fit the concept of what a summoner has been and that's what's got a lot of peoples' panties in a bunch. So this is a topic since Day 1.

tl;dr: noone can agree on what SMN is. If YOU think SMN is all about big flashy summons, so be it, but that is certainly not the only interpretation.

tl;dr2: optional items is a good idea because 1, noone has the same opinion of "most thematic" SMN and 2, it ensures art budget isn't wasted.

old games smn were glorified blm/whm with the ability to summon in FFXI they had focused on summoning sure but they were glorified off healers. there is no summoner that you imagine in the history of FF

Yeah, it should be more like FFXI, where you summon a giant awesome avatar, have it use an attack, release it, and then sit there doing nothing for 60 seconds.

The problem with Yuna is that when the summon is out she doesn't do anything at all.

Now this is not the direction ff14 summoner went. FF14 summoner is a warlock, a dot based class with a pet.

Yuna is essentially a druid, not in form, but in function - each summon is a different form and swapping summons is changing forms. So this is a completely different direction that they did not go into. Now whether or not you feel that is more fun, idk, but there is no chance in hell they are completely scrapping the current warlock type caster for a druid type caster. It might come in the future, but will probably be blue mage or beastmaster.

Nah I think it's fun too. The only reason there aren't more SMN is because BLM is just so good. I don't want BLM nerfed btw just you know Ahk Morn!!!

I doubt they will go with the other archetype because while the summon was out, you were shielding your party with the summon. Unless they make some AMAZING reworks to how Titan/Summon 2 works (which I would love) the Egi's aren't designed to effectively shield or tank in a raid situation.

The changes with Dreadwyrm are much more akin to FF1-FF9 Summoner where it comes out and goes boom, while the Egi are really just your strongest DoT spell. Persistent though they may be, I don't disagree that Egi are very different than FFX, FFXI or FFXII Summons. Those Summons all made bigger impacts than the current Egi, but none were actually persistent with the exception of XI inside Abyssea. They were all very temporary. As a DPS, burst is important but not at the expense of total damage. And currently burst might be coming in the form of Ahk Morn.

Time will tell, but I think they are doing the best thing they can do for SMN. Opening up Glamour to Egi is probably the smartest thing they can do to be able to appease and entertain as many people as possible.
