Valid gripe, but really a non-issue if you have even a few ppl in the alliance that have half a brain. The alliance loud-mouth(there is always one at least) can shout for all in all he/she likes, but as a DD i'm gonna use my judgement on if i need to go in. The tanks are on point? I'll go in. If not(and i use the previous two bosses and a measure)? I stay out and help on adds.
Too many times i've come out of the belly to rampaging weeds and the healers almost dead.
As long as some party goes in I don't care. I'll do either, but I get more of a kick fighting Cerberus.
I pretty much always stay out to help the off-tank get them down a bit faster, they have no stun resistance and Monk is pretty good at keeping them stunned before they cause too much mayhem and once the rest of the DPS are out they can finish the one or two plants that might still be alive. After that we can stand there helplessly watching someone not attach the chain and wipe the raid so we can do it all over again :)
Cerberus stops eating after 8. I BELIEVE it's technically possible to get more than 8 in if you hop in to the slabber together, but if all the DPS aren't in the slabber before a tank and/or healer hop in you lose DPS slots.
And if the DPS are executing well the walls die before dots can build past 1 or 2 stacks and before the unknowns can hit anyone enough to cause a death. At most one DPS might die.
As for outside: DPS staying out doesn't help with the adds nearly killing healers. That's a tank issue. If the tank isn't picking up the wolfsbane that DPS trying to save healers alone is just going to end up tanking the floor and the healers are going to get attacked anyway. And if the OT ARE picking them up a quick stun or whatever might help a bit, but it's not going to make or break it. Woulda been more useful making sure the stomach walls die before any DPS do.
IMO the best method is to have a complete party (B for Belly) go into the belly along with all the other DPS. The tank and healer from that party will handle the Unknowns - none of the other DPS get any damage. A single OT can easily handle all wolfsbane (along with their healer).
The problem with this method is the quality of OT. As discussed in this thread, OT can be a problem there.
Either method is fine. All DPS is roughly twice as fast for stomach phases, but those aren't that long either. Really it depends on this: Which is shittier, your tanks or your DPS? If Tanks are bad/dick waving, all DPS in, having two tanks and six healers out for the minute it takes for all DPS to wreck the stomach makes surviving adds more likely. If your DPS is bad, then A adds, B belly, C chains, as that the stomach will take a bit to kill anyway and this way no one dies. If BOTH are good, all dps in is slightly better as it cuts the fight time down by like a minute or two.
Aether tends to go all in for DPS due to the efficiency of it. With good DPS the stomach walls dies so fast the Wolfsbanes don't become too much of an issue (DPS comes out and deals with them together soon as the stomach walls are down.) LBing the stomach walls with a level 1 Melee almost instantly kills a wall, speeding up the turn around to the time Cerberus himself is stunned and the Wolfsbanes can be dealt with (Also time for free damage on him) Usually Cerberus won't survive the second go around on his stomach.
Different strokes for different folks. Cerberus is the least problematic on Aether with the All DPS in tactic.
