Dreadwyrm has focus on stats that differ from Ironworks as well. So its still a matter of BiS to do coils to gear up if you need or desire certain pieces.
Another thing is that Dreadwyrm garbs looks a lot cooler than Ironworks.
The problem with locking the highest level gear behind Alexander HM is the mind set of the community. Currently 2.8 % of NA and EU players have completed FCOB which is abysmal by any standard. The problem is the mindset of the community no one wants to stick with a static and progress together. Elitist jerks say this group of players aren't at my level so instead of staying and elevating the group they just static hop until they find a group of players better then them. Statics also have a problem in falling apart.
He's not that far off when you consider something like Kirimu Coat vs Augmented top vs Dreadwyrm, especially when a lot of the bard pieces either lack accuracy, or has it paired with skill speed. Granted this comes far into the game when you already have XYZ dreadwyrm pieces versus init ally gearing up, but I didn't have any trouble with hp checks when I was doing T13 with my kirimu coat still.
The first of the two new tombstones will essentially be "Darklight 2: Electric Boogaloo". The baseline gear expected if you want to competitive in the new raid. The second can be expected to be just like your soldiery or poetics.
Now the real change is the normal vs hard mode of Alexander itself. Which can be seen as the normal or heroic versions if we're going to recycle terminology from other MMOs. I can see normal mode dropping gear, and the hard mode dropping slightly better gear, probably with the same look. To keep raiding healthy you always need to have that good carrot on the stick to encourage players to waste hours of their lives dying to the same fight over and over
So yes, I do think Alexander Hard should drop "the best" gear available, as a immediately visible reward for the player's hard work and dedication to learning the fights. Even if its as much of a "Wow its nothing" stat increase like the whooping 5 extra ilvls on Coil Weapons.
Alexander normal should not drop gear that is near the best as hard mode. SE devs in an interview said that normal mode was made to be beaten by everyone within 1-2 days. So it is a tourish version of CT basically. At most it should drop a few tomes as a method to grind tomes if you dont like dungeons and not drop any gear whatsoever. It is meant for those who are upset they could not experience the storyline of the original Bahamut coils and do not want or cannot commit to a static. If anything Alexander normal should be a worse gearing up option then high end dungeons because of how easy it is meant to be.
Source? I never heard them say that at all! The Devs said Alexander NM(or HM w/e people call the easier one now days.) Is going to be on par with current coils with echo. Alex. HM(or Savage) will be like FCoB if it was Savage mode.
They also said Alexander NM(Or HM) will drop gear similar to CT drops i.e. you'll be able to get a drop from there once a week!
Alexander NM, even being considered to be the nerfed/echo'd version of current coils, will still be much harder than coils were after such because we won't be outgearing it, or atleast not until HM/Savage comes out and people start getting gear from it.
Also devs never said EVERYONE will beat it in 1-2 days, they just expect it to be beaten in that time frame. As in atleast one group will have it done by atleast the second day. If they still have things similar to T5 there will be plenty of people who won't be completing it.
