I'm using the 3 years old PC with all the ATI + AMD stuff and got below score with Dx11...
I don't think SE put some discrimination here.

What was your resolution and settings?
The only way to get a true reading on whether or not the Benchmark discriminates is to have two identical computers (all the same parts and setup) save for the GPU, make the one GPU Nvidia and the other ATI/AMD but both GPUs of equal standing, ie: Radeon R9 290X and GeForce GTX 970.
Intel Xeon 1240-V2 3.4Ghz
8GB DDR 3 1600mhz
Nvidia GTX 770 4GB
My Score on DX11 Max Settings 8261
kinda funny thing i did. i followed this post https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ing_fps_gains/
and my score jumped to 8996 and still looked nice
News flash - AMD/ATI and Nvidia are competitors - what's wrong with one card doing better than another for a game?
Not rare for one of these company to team up for game development
1920x1080... Well I admit it's not so high because this is old hardware...
But I don't think the cause is from the brand, it might be comes from the hardware compatibility.
Even if you have good graphic card & CPU but your motherboard is unable to bring it out to the fullest potential might be the cause also.
There is many factor for that like monitor, RAM, Power and so. I'm not good at computer hardware but you can ask at the PC forums for the best advice.
So I found out there were some bios settings I had forgotten to change back from when my crappy Antec AiO water cooler couldn't keep my CPU temps below 70 degrees Celsius under full load so i turned off turbo boost and kept the max cpu speed at 3.5ghz. The ram speed (modules are rated for 1600MHZ) were also running at half speed under the "auto" bios setting.
With turbo boost set to bump up cpu speed up to 4.2ghz and ram running at full speed, along with a driver update to the titan black (it was a few versions behind 344.xx), it bumped my score from 7027 to 9947. DX11 max @ 1080p.
8350 vs i5 4590
The stock speed on the 8350 is higher but i need overall better performance. i am willing to take back my SSD and get a regular HDD just to get the job done.
I can get the 8350 for 150.00 (already have a 970 Pro MB)
I can get the i5 4590 and a ASRock H81M basic board for 200.00
