I can't support this really. It takes more than one person's vote to abandon. I think the mechanic is fine for now and is working as intended.

I don't agree. Vote abandon is there for the groups that don't meet dps checks, won't listen when mechanics are repeatedly explained, and for people when they've just reached their limit with a group. When you play with other people in a group game, such as this, it's for the group to decide when it's not worth trying to go forward anymore, not you. Yeah it's frustrating when you get really close to completing something and that vote abandon comes up, but the risk of losing the few good groups who can do the content but don't want to put more time into completing it as opposed to the many who I've found who simply can't just doesn't validate the removal of such a necessary tool in this game.
How the...
I can't think of any time I've done a duty and had someone vote abandon it unless everyone was already in agreement that we should, and it has only happened twice. And once it was because the tank went AFK after we wiped twice. We were close to the end but me and the 2 DPS didn't feel like waiting and we were all too annoyed with the duty to continue.
Has never happened out of no where and I've only been in like 5 Duty runs, in total, where I've spent near an hour in it.
If this is happening a lot to you, you might want to take a look at how you are playing to see if there is any improvements you could make to make things go smoother and/or quicker.
How about when a vote abandon isn't unanimous, the person that suggested it gets perma-banned from the game, and special forces are dispatched to pick them up and toss them in a secret CIA prison?
So what's better is that the majority of the players in the group have their agency taking away from them? Grow up, this isn't kindergarten where people are forced to play each other, we are grown adults and can decide who we want to play with. Sounds like you just keep messing up groups and get mad that they aren't forced to carry you.
My vote is no, next.
I think what Avalon's argument is that parties who Vote Abandon within 30 minutes are bad and unfair just because she wants to clear the duty along with others who spend their time to work on such. All in all, if we get rid of Vote Abandon we'll see a worse way of getting out via vote kicking, and again using that loosely is against the rules. The only solution to that would be to get a party together who wants to clear said duty you're attempting, instead of trying DF.
Sometimes it's obvious that there's no point to spending the remaining amount of time in an instance. If a group isn't meeting a DPS check and it isn't due to people dying, no amount of practice is going to fix that. Likewise, if people keep repeatedly failing the same mechanics despite multiple explanations and advice, chances are they're not going to suddenly have an epiphany and start doing things right.
At that point, it's best to just admit it's a lost cause and disband peacefully.
This is one of those things you'll immediately regret not having once it's removed. Sure it sucks when Vote Abandon feels like it wastes your time ("if only everyone pushed a little harder we'd have had it!), but the alternative is much worse.
