Auri and Ishgard, can we truly be allies?

Then again, we're talking about a people who hunted a harmless fish to near extinction, simply because it somewhat resembles a dragon. (See Fishing Log text for Leafy Seadragon.) The Ishgardians haven't really demonstrated that they show a lot of finesse in deciding which dragonlike things are to be killed on sight and which are A-OK. XD

I have the feeling, though, that even if Ishgardians show enmity toward Au Ra in general, they'll treat Au Ra adventurers the same as any other, just like Duskwights and Keepers of the Moon adventurers aren't given any crap in Gridania in spite of the prejudice against them there.

It's a shame how Yugiri's reveal was. I thought there'd be more reaction to it.

Anyway, it'll probably be explained off-screened. Although if there's somehow more Auri npcs than there are male Miqo'te I'll be angry

I'm pretty sure there are already more unicorns in Eorzea than male Miqo'te, so Au Ra of either gender outnumbering them is probably a given.

I'd actually love it if they inverted the usual ratio and made female Au Ra absurdly rare and males more common (if only in the lore), to give female PCs a chance to feel special, but that will never happen with a mostly male dev team.

There are also reditions of dragons that have fur as well. I guess Ishgard will have a beef with Miqo'te as well.

It doesn't really matter if the Au'Ra actually are part Dravanian though. Ishgardian society is anti-dragon to the point that they hunt down and kill anything that even resembles a dragon. It's very much a cultural witch-hunt in their society. The Au'Ra having horns and scales will instantly cause the Ishgardians to see them as being in league with Dravania. Remember Aymeric and Lucia asking you to keep quiet about speaking to Midgardsormr as they knew it would cause the Holy See to regard you with suspicion? For me personally this is why Yugiri's reveal was handled poorly as it would make no sense for Ishgard not to grow suspicious of her once she had revealed her true nature.

For the record though we have had multiple clues already that the Au'Ra are indeed half Dravanian; the most obvious being the story of Shiva sleeping with a dragon at the same time we're introduced to a half-draconic race. Whilst it has still not been outright confirmed, saying 'nothing so far has indicated that' is completely false.

Firstly, we only have no actual confirmation that Au Ra are draconic, unless you can dig up a quote about that. In fact, they might actually have a demonic origin, with Yoshida stating at Pax East that it's possible to make Auri females looks more succubus-like in appearance.

Secondly, they're not from Dravania, but instead they're from Othard to the Far East; the slides when they first introduced at the JP Fan Fest even state as such, and the Wind-up Odin minion states that his sword with a Far Eastern name was taken from an Auri warrior... which would have happened before he got sealed in the age of the Allagan empire, so about 3 ages and 4 millennium before Ishgard was even founded and therefore also before Shiva was a heretic.

Regardless, we might have our answers either on the 11th with the Live Letter, or by the end of the month (hopefully) when the Benchmark comes out, as that should in theory have lore tidbits for the race and the two clans.

He used succubus but he also used beastlike. I wouldn't read too much into that.

The Shiva connection really makes no sense. Shiva was an ishgardian meaning she is no older than Ishgard so probably not more than a couple of thousand years or so. That's a very short period of time for a race to multiply from a single relationship into two unique clans. Further, the only Au Ra we have met is from across the ocean meaning that the only known source of Au Ra would mean that any of these decedents of shiva would have had to travel to a completely different continent.

No, Shiva introduced us to the origin of the Au ra, half dragons, half men, but she might not be the first, meaning someone is Othard laid with a Dragon thousands of years before and that led to Yugiri.

I think we'd have a higher chance of them being half-Merycidian if anything... I can't, at present, believe that Shiva is connected to the Au Ra in any way.
