People misunderstand.

You're essentially talking about PSN vs PC (with no third party store). PS players needs to buy a new license BECAUSE of PSN! Not the Playstation hardware.

Windows and Mac coexist together, one uses a wrapper to get Windows file run on OS X side. That wrapper can be done by community, just like how PC can use Playstation emulators / Xbox emulators.

all i am hoping for when the mac version comes out is the steam version will then become playable on mac

If we have to buy it again to be able to play on Mac, I just won't bother. I'll carry on using Steam in-house streaming to play it instead. That works even if you didn't buy the game via Steam and is quite playable over LAN.

Would be interesting to see.. I can't remember seeing a game on Steam where you have to buy the Windows and Mac (and Linux for that matter) versions separately.. Usually you just buy the game once and play it on whatever platform.

Exactly, a few of my Steam games are PC/Mac/Linux compatible with 1 purchase.

As it seems I am crying out loud about it. I'm just doing a favor for OS X users, 3-4 of my PC are Windows/Linux and only 1 MacBook Pro 2010.

well lets use blizzard games as an example, you can dl both PC / MAC version as long as you BOUGHT a copy , rather in PC or mac.
I bought SC2 for PC, then later on I switched to a mpb, and i was able to dl the mac version and play it there without ANY additional cost.

Why do we have to pay twice for the FFXIV one just for a mac version? this is kind of stupid..

Charging Apple product users extra for products/services is industry standard, isn't it?

There is no ARR Mac Client currently announced to be available on its own.
The only Mac version that exist, and is currently in pre-order, is the complete edition ARR+Heavensward.

Nobody currently knows if the Mac version will ever be available for download, and if that's the case, we don't know if it will be free or not if you already have a PC registered licence.

Steam hasn't had EDIT: many games that required a rebuy to play on different platforms since 2010: http://www.shacknews.com/article/637...team-play-game EDIT: Call of Duty Black Ops might be one of those exceptions, if you happen to be buying the base game by itself. http://store.steampowered.com/app/214630/

I suppose the existing Steam version getting Mac support for free would be some consolation, if that's ever provided. To sell a Mac version but have the Steam version PC-only would probably not be a good idea (the draw of having a Steam version in the first place would be further diminished if that was the case).
