It sounds like a neat idea at first, but the way things are right now with class balance being in the toilet I don't think it'd be worth it honestly.

I think more than anything, this could be added just so anyone aching to PvP can do so without a ridiculous wait time or having to premake a party.
I wish we could duel, but playing both MRD and BLK for pvp, I know 1 on 1, I'd rip my BLK a new one with my MRD, no matter how many tricks and turns, the HP alone would make it a battle of attrition, and I think longview, that's the truth for any 1 vs 1 pvp.
The main benefit of this for me would be testing mechanics. There's a lot of pvp mechanics I would like to confirm (ex: accuracy cap, if "Sleep resist" potions actually work and how well, etc...). Currently to do so requires me to get a group of 8 people who have 30 mins to kill and are the correct rank to mess around in the wolves den. If there was an open pvp area I could go with 1 friend and test everything I want easily and efficiently. For me personally this would be huge.
I think There's always going to be a rock-paper-scissors aspect to FFXIV PVP; It's not First Person Shooter or a Platform esque playQuote:

It takes away from strategy, coordination, and board awareness.
An analogy I'd use would be a game of Thumb-Wars VS Chess.
