3.0 Launch - Server Planning

Yup its guna be horrendous, I doubt many of us will even get to play the first day of early access.

It's really too bad they couldn't have got the EU data center up before Heavensward launch it would have made things a lot less congested on launch day.

they ALREADY need more servers, hell half of the housing "limits" is just because of server space. (i.e. item limits, armoire storage issues and what not)

Those are design flaws. Buying more servers will not fix any of those issues. The idea of housing neighborhoods is cute and all. But, if SE really wants to solve the housing problem, they need to provide instanced housing. It's the only solution.

If you all think it's going to be bad for just 1 day at launch then prepare to be surprised... I won't be subbing again till after the 1st of July. :rolleyes:

considering that HW will also be bringing a 3rd playerbase with the addition of MAC users id *think* that more servers would be a no-brainer for SE. im anticipating a re-run of 2.0 launch with congestion and a temporary halt of digital sales of game/expansion. the only 100% certainty is se'll have to wait n see :p

No need to worry. Word on the street is they put in an order for 1 new hamster per server for the expansion. That'll probably be more than enough.

The biggest pressure will be on the zones that specifically are involved in the expansion content. If you just login to your normal location and do something other than expansion content you should be fine - unless your world is full of course.

I seriously hope they bring about EU servers when 3.0 hits or finally upgrade their network/server load capacity. I have never had that much lag in this game despite playing on their NA servers but since GS was implemented and the increase of both new and returning players, the lag has got quite a lot worse already. With 3.0 it would be almost unplayable in areas or content where high skill use or player congestion happens despite having a good speed connection in the UK. The ping to all other UK sites and services including other US sites and services is fine but the ping to their NA servers has increased dramatically since GS.

Ping response times are not an indication of server load, they are an indication of network congestion, and unless that congestion exists within SE's data center, it's the fault of their ISP, or one of the peering backbone providers, or your own ISP. Ping is such a low level task in the network protocol stack, server load isn't a factor.

This is a constantly growing game that has had continuous issues with server space, extra servers would not sit collecting dust for very long. We have been hearing about lack of server space since this game started.
