Thank God - I thought I was the only one.
My issue with the second half of Shiva's theme isn't any kind of musical thematic one, it's just that it's awful. I'm kind of aghast that so many people defend it. Even the themes I'm not as big on (Leviathan, Ifrit) have a solid sound that I feel matches the fight. But going from that gorgeous orchestra to such punk trash is...saddening. Hearing the chant of "Bow down, overdweller!" with the heavy guitars in Titan's fight makes me pumped up. Hearing a singer of questionable competence spew poetry at me while this riff-raff plays behind her just makes me think "what the hell is this crap?" I'll never forget that first Shiva fight, having went in blind and loving EVERYTHING about it, including diamond dust itself. Then...
Shiva has a great soundtrack, it really pumps you up. I'm sick of pompous, "epic" music (Liberi Fatali, One winged angel...) for bosses. There are different genres you can experiment with, it doesn't always have to be chorus chants and Latin.
FFXIV's soundtrack is one of the things I love the most because it's so out there compared to the rest of the series and really takes you by surprise with some music that you would never think of for certain fights. Same thing with the FFXIII trilogy which is why I loved that too.
Even if it occasionally shoots itself in the head, I do really like how pretty much all of FFXIV, down to the soundtrack, is one giant mashup of every genre out there.
Its still better than Leviathan: 1st part was a drumbs which sets the mood of foreboding....then the 2nd half play it it sounds like one of those 80-90's surfing songs
Shiva is far and away my favorite Primal theme save maybe Garuda.
Come at me / deal with it.
