Pets deal a lot more then auto attack damage. I've had garuda scale upwards to almost 800-1000 on gust while using rouse and or spur, an ifrit even more so on slashing an blunt debuffed targets.

I prefer SMN to BLM, the limited movement of BLM is rough for me because I play melee so much. I think people who play both really well are impressive, though.

As for "Arcanist vs Black Mage"
Black Mage wins over summoner in every aspect, and if you're better than "your average blackmage" you'll be even on really movement heavy fights with summoners, if you didn't beat them, in dps.

So, OP, if you like both jobs, I'd advice you to play blackmage, if you are interested in end game content (FCoB). If not, pick which ever you feel like playing.

Also, deepest apologies for all the html coders out there, I know nothing 'bout html and that html code at the start is more than likely wrong in everyaspect

The biggest downside at endgame for SMN is how bad the endgame gear is for them. If there was a set of endgame gear actually aimed at them (all crit/det/acc), would they still be significantly worse than BLM at endgame? Most people who are talking about how bad SMN are compared to BLM at endgame are taking everything into account. I'm wondering how much of this is just that - the final tier of caster gear is all stated for BLM for some reason (even the endgame SMN weapons!).

THM/BLM is a pain in the butt early on due to MP management but at Lv Cap the rotation isn't half bad.

As for the Carbuncles, don't get too attached. > Lv 30 when you "upgrade" to SMN, the Egis slowly take their place and you will never be able to summon them again - not as SMN anyway; unless you remove your Job stone and gimp yourself by to ACN.

Ifrit isn't safe to use for every situation, but in the numerous situations where it is safe, it is the better pet by a significant margin.

I had the pleasure of running a World of Darkness with you a bit ago, and even as a SMN, you trucked me on most every encounter. T^T I'd be curious to see just how high you can get as a BLM.

For me, I play BLM in middling content, but I prefer the complexity of SMN. They're not in the best spot for endgame currently, but hopefully a few more tweaks to the job design and it will pass.
