It's very depressing how...

Hunts should have stayed as they were. Only problem I ever had with them is they killed dungeons. Not sure if this update to them will make that happen again or not. I honestly have done them a couple times and they bore me to tears, I will stick with the weekly and use the seals for ventures. :)

Its the path of least resistance.

lol, the whole rush to get item level 130 gear is silly. There's nothing in the game now you can't beat at item level 100-110 (maybe lower) I dont have time to farm hunts, I zodiac/nexus weapons to do now. The seals are nice but not really worth the time spent running doing hunts. Anyone here beat Odin yet? whats the deal, I cant seem to get this fight down.

Folks think they "have to" do certain content to get geared cause "others will grief them if they don't". :/ This fear I just don't get. I tell people just to do what they want in game, but it's like they CAN'T. ><

That being said, I love hunts. :) It's easy, fun content I can do with friends (*ymmv depending on server). I'm happy they're worth something again. :o

Zerging content is pretty popular in MMOs. But I don't get the point of rushing to ilvl 130 just to kill more rank A and S. Or afking in Mor Dhona.

Well, to be honest, much of the game to me is incredibly boring. I play the game to fight against the strongest monsters. I want to obtain gear to prove my worth over said enemies. Since that is on a weekly lockout, and Zalera isn't end game focused, the only way I can progress is to hunt.

WoD was fun when I first tried it, but the continuous wipes and vote abandons + the weekly trial immediately sapped any fun. Odin has no benefits; Gilgamesh has no purpose (wasn't even much of a fun fight); the hidden trial was a little more complicated than need be (complicated =/= hard). There just isn't much to the game. Hunts are a lazy way to keep it a float until Gold Saucer.

EDIT: I am not against the hunt, but having hunted 7 books so far, I'm tired lol.

You are wrong to a degree.

To Quote for a large segment of my guild "hunts finally give people stuff to do and it is probably the closest we will get to NMS in xiv". A large segement of the population misses NM camping and meaningful openworld content, these are the people most likely enjoying the hunts. As a guild leader it is the best content SE added because I can take 4ppl, 8ppl, 16ppl, 32 ppl, 100ppl and they can all participate in the activity. There is no Forced 4 man or 8 man to do it. So I would argue hunts are one of the best things SE added both in terms of content to fill in the day when dungeons/instance bosses (Raids in XIV - why they are called this I do not know) are not being run as well as one of the few activities you can do as a guild.

There are many ppl playing XIV who hate questing and vanity content. I am one of them.... In my guild alone there are at least 18 other ppl who see the new quest, primal that drop sub par Ilvl gear based on max level content, and dungeons added each patch to be the worst thing every 3 months because it kills 1-2 days of their time unlocking content and it does not drop anything of relevance. So we do not see how anyone can enjoy grinding dungeons/Odin/Hildenbrant and such when there is simply no reward or advancement in it.

With that said there are many ppl doing hunts that do not like their design. I like to think the majority hate how they are treated like a fates, which leads to a mindless zerg. They are actually alot more fun to low man when the bosses mechanics actually matter and they do not die in 30secs. But at the same time I know some people who just love FATES, and I cannot fathom how myself.

As for fun vs reward. Very few will do content without meaningful reward more then once. Why savage mode coil had less then 10% of people clearning T9 even try it, had nothing to do with it being hard it had all to do with no reward. It is not the Epeen it is the purpose of advancement of your character and guild which traditionally is why people play endgame in a mmo although it is getting lost these days. If content has no progression why would you do that over progression if that is your primary goal in the game.

TLDR version: Everyone enjoys different things. Some hate Hunts, Some hate openworld content, Some hate Raids, Some hate Grinds, Some hate vanity gear, some hate dungeons. But with each of these group there is another group that loves them. There is no 1 universal content that everyone enjoys.

The irony is that most of the hunt parties I've had, have been the most lively in the past few months, we'd joke and laugh while looking for A rank hunts and during the downtime between the spawns. It's also been a great way to explore the world that SE provided for us that's non-instance, and then think about it, do you spend anytime in the world or do you hit DR and spend 90% of your time in whatever place you logged into?

Sure it allows you to get gear faster and to grind it out, but is that a bad thing when you're actually taking the time to explore the world? I don't think so. However I do agree it's like a zergfest with FATEs, but if you manage to get a hunt party early on in the day (really early or late at night) then it's a lot of fun, because with only one or two parties the A rank hunts are about as challenging as a regular dungeon boss.

I believe you shouldn't complain just because other people have a different view on what "fun" is to them, I'm sure your regular time consists of being a thrall in the game with whatever you do.

People need to also consider the vast number of players still stuck on T5. For many, hunts are the only option for upgrading Ironworks.

It's an alternative for people who don't do Coil to gear up their class. This is the only place besides coil that you're going to get a carbon twine. People want to catch their gear up so they can perform better. I myself sat out FCoB due to my static taking a break. I now have the ability to upgrade my gear to be on par with coil so yes, I'm going to be doing hunts, lots of them so that I can catch my main job up, then I will continue to enjoy the game. I like hunts, I think they could be do much much better but they offer a reward right now that is popular, so they're going to be popular.

I enjoy hunts and have fun doing them with my buddies.
