Attach Glamour to Jobs, not gear.

The late Gary Gygax of Dungeons and Dragons fame and his colleagues in TSR are the ones most responsible for that, as most RPG standards originated with DnD (EXP, levels, HP/MP, attributes and statistics, character classes, and yes, gear restrictions based on class such as no heavy armour on mages), and hence most modern CRPG/MMORPG developers just kept those conventions intact with certain degrees of alteration when RPGs made the jump from tabletops to computers and game consoles.

In fact, the FFXI manual even specifically stated the in-universe reasons for these restrictions - WHMs were prevented from "wielding edged weapony which would draw blood", and BLMs could not "wear heavy armour that would otherwise affect their ability to concentrate". And also, it's even traditional in past FF games where mage Jobs like BLM were only ever able to wear light robes. And it's the same here in FFXIV. They're standard RPG elements that have existed from the beginning - which means you can't just dress your BLM like a PLD I'm sorry to say.

I've proposed a similar idea before, but that instead of tying glamours to each job, to make them tied to each gear set, this already is sort of in game, in that you can have same gear glamoured on multiple gear sets but dyed different colors.

So many replies, that aren't really related to what I'm asking.

If your a white mage, and you glamour your Ironworks set to WHM AF, when you wear the same gear on Scholar, it defaults to Ironworks.
Same with wearing War and PLD
Same with Monk and Ninja for i110 gear.

I'm just asking that glamours be associated to jobs rather than gear. Not that I be able to wear a WHM hoodie on my Warrior. I want my Warrior to look like a Warrior, and I want my Paladin, to be able to have it's own style too.

I'd love for my SMN and BLM glamours to differentiate as well.
