So about this "third aspect to the fairy" thing.
There's one problem with that: The fairy is a familiar created with ancient technology/science/magicks. For us Eorzeans to suddenly have the know-hows and ability to alter products from the ancients seems unlikely. After all: The only adventurers who posses said familiar are also in possession of a soul stone. You could conclude that Eorzeans simply do not know how to recreate these familiars or even "upgrade" them. I mean, MTV's "Pimp my Ride" crew can't help you here...
Here's the entire post I made in another topic concerning a third fairy named Helios:
Sigh the lore speculation as you stated would be a problem but then you definitely reverted back to my statement to where I simply posted okay give her a third entity as you said
''Of course, Square-Enix could easily create some cheap lore that would change the current lore with a simple "oh we found another tablet" or "hey Lily has more memories undiscovered!", but will they really?''
Yes, you claim the story has come to an end but we will be getting new job quests in the upcoming patch which will be required to obtain our new ability/traits , can we not agree on that ?
If so then why couldn't there be a twist in lore seeing as that's a viable way of upgrading a class specializing around the usage of pet actions etc etc.
Now if they add new abilities to the current pets I would love that too as a option. Like I said in my OP this isn't to just jump out and say oh this is what I want blah blah blah , I merely wanted oh those are cool ideas/ or oh those suck and then you give me your SCH abilities, forget the lore crap
HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS EXTRA COOL JOB BETTER ? AND SINCE WE ARE GETTING NEW ABILITIES WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE THEM TO BE ? <<<----clear enough
I think we should just kind of be happy for a new healing job. Both the healers in this game are quite boring, and Astrologist looks like it could have some versatility and uniqueness to it. The healers so far really have no depth to them. It's pretty much "here are some basic healing things, use them" To make these jobs exciting, there really needs to be some more character. As it stands, it's just "Hots, dot, heals, and shields" No flexibility to the skills at all really. A new fairy is cool and all, but you really just described most of the same things the scholar already does, only weaker versions. It's just still "Here's some flat party buffs, here's a little shield, here's a little damage reduction, you can already do these things, but here's the same tools, only weaker" My suggestion was a heal that gets stronger if another aspect of the AOE heal was already in effect.
Other things I would suggest is more dynamics between the pet and summoner. A buff with a long CD that starts when it wears off, but turning it on causes a stacking increase in Mind every 3 seconds the healer and fairy stay still. Or a trait that causes shields that fall off without being used to return a portion of their amount as MP. (I realize I am drawing some skills from WoW, but you really can't knock another game for having diverse healers)
I'd also like to see some dynamic between Lily's aspects, kind of like the Sun and Moon aspects of the Druid DPS in WoW. As Eos uses Embrace, she generates stacks of Fey Dust, at 10 stacks, she suddenly transforms into Selene in a burst of AOE healing. Change Selene's heal into a shield with the same potency. She casts her shield, and generates stacks of Fey Pollen, and at 10, she suddenly changes back into Eos in a burst of AOE shielding. The process repeats. Swiftcast + Summon of a certain fairy can cause the effect to trigger early for a reduced effectiveness. The fairies will already heal themselves, so what would it matter if they switched back and forth and recovered their own HP in the process? You would also have the chance to use both fairies' other CDs during their up time, and the changing back and forth automatically would make using all of the buffs available easier.
EDIT: Changed the names of the stacking things cause I noticed they were already names of skills.
Hmmm so ok, first of all, Fey Flare. The stacking of this shield on top of galvanise may turn out to be a little overpowered perhaps. The problem that may occur with this ability being in the game is that encounters may have to be tuned to take into account this powerful stacking mitigation. It would mean things would have to hit harder to take this into account, and thus perhaps create a catch 22 situation where scholars are needed in most parties due to encounters being tuned to take this level of mitigation into account (bare in mind there will be 3 healers come expansion, and one is going to have to sit out of every raid).
Fey Spot: you say about this "talk about awesome" and i think you have it right there. It is awesome, but potentially too awesome. Think about having the following: adlo and fay flare shield on MT, sacred soil, fay spot and succor on raid. The mitigation is a little too powerful with all this combined o.o.
As for solar winds, i honestly dont know if is would have too much of an impact on balance, no impact on balance or a little impact on balance. Hmmm, i can see summoners being able to combine this with dots+raging strikes+contagion to make it very powerful.
Its a hard thing to do try and think up new things for scholars, since mitigation can be seriously unbalanced. I can see where you are going with these, but i am unsure if they are balanced or unbalanced to be honest. I play scholar in final coil, have played scholar since 2.0, and understand how absurdly powerful this class. Any future advancements with this class are going to be difficult to design and develop due to the nature of mitigation abilities in a game such as this O.o.
Edit: oh and just to say, the lore in this game is an artificial construct, so anything could be feasible and possible, its the probablitity that may be low however.
I don't want Helios,
I want phoenix Egi the ultimate scholar's pet! Please devs ;.;
While the ideas are interesting, I think they could be more effective without being overpowered. At the same time, even as you wrote them, those abilities are already much more powerful than the abilities provided by our pets currently, especially Selene. I would much rather see improvements to our existing pets and our own abilities, that would cover what you wrote, before a new pet is added. Eos isn't weak by any means, and far outclasses Selene. The only reason to ever use Selene is if you have another scholar in the group that is using Eos, or if you really care about the minimal buff Selene provides and don't need Eos' healing centric cool downs. If we are to have multiple pets, we shouldn't use one only because the other pet isn't needed. Whether it is progression or farm, ideally, both pets should be equally useful, for different reasons, in the same situation. Granted, that is the ideal.
I would much rather see Selene's buffs changed to a flat % buff. Rather than increasing spell/skill speed rating by 30%, instead reduce current cast/recast times outright by a smaller %; 5%-10% would be appropriate. This would make the buffs much more effective while making sure it is effective even when your gear doesn't have a ton of spell/skill speed. Either this, or buff those stats as a whole, which is a more prickly balance concern.
Additionally, give both Eos and Selene larger radii on their cooldowns. If our pets are a central part of our role as healer, then they need to synergize well with our abilities. This means that the range on their abilities need to match, or in some cases exceed (since it is relying on AI), our own range. Considering the cool downs of these abilities and their functions, we shouldn't need to worry about people being close enough to be affected. The pet spells should all have a range to match our Physick.
This also brings up the point that Succor needs a buff to its radius to match Medica II. Succor is already very weak actual healing when compared to a white mage's Medica. At the very least, they should have compatible and matching radii. Also, I would suggest giving Succor the additional functionality of doing increased healing when it hits targets which already have a shield on them. Not so much that matches Medica II's healing output however; that should remain a White Mage advantage.
I do think Scholars need to see improvements to their shielding and utility. They need something to really define their class and separate it from White Mage and potentially Astrologian if that job is not also different enough. The jobs need to have worthwhile core strengths that give them an advantage at certain duties over other jobs.
Personally I am an advocate of either giving us a separate, pure shield spell, or to simply remove the healing component from Adloquium and simply give the shield a much higher potency. In the spells current form, the shield can't be too strong, since the spell heals; the heal can't be too strong because it shields. As a consequence, when considering cost, It is often more efficient to simply wait and heal the damage with Physick after its done when anticipating damage. Because of the potency and cost, unless you get a crit, it isn't worth it to Adloquium the target unless you know that a non-crit shield is both, what is required, and enough, to save them since banking on a crit isn't good practice. This goes against what should be the defining strength of damage absorption based healing, efficiency and reduced waste through reduced overhealing.
Give us the ability to create a powerful shield on a target, the spell can even have a high cost, but make it efficient. Allow for an element of skill. Make the spell return a % of its MP cost, up to a cap, based upon how much of the shield was used up before disappearing. If the shield is eaten through instead of timing out, then you get the capped return. If the shield goes unused then you are punished with no return for using your spells wastefully. Mechanics like these would make the job more interesting overall and give skilled scholars even more opportunities to stand out when they perform well.
Playing our jobs should be interesting. A game designer should strive for something very particular when designing a playable class. Ideally, the target to aim for, is that playing the class should fun. Fun is why people play games. Playing your class should be a form of intrinsic reward; if you enjoy playing it for its own sake, a lot of other things will fall into place.
To expand on Adloquium, it is only efficient to use it if the target will die without it and is already injured. This is because, if they will die even without being already injured, the very, very likely case is that nothing will save them in the first place. This is generally only in the case of mistakes and isn't something you would be able to reliably predict anyway.
If you know the target will survive the damage without the Adloquium? Then you shouldn't bother. A Physick+Embrace after the damage will do more actual healing, as well as costing half the Adloquium.
In its current form, Adloquium just isn't an efficient spell and needs to be a straightforward shield. If the cost of Adloquium is going to remain twice the cost of Physick, then the shield would need to be twice the potency of Physick or higher. Otherwise reduce the cost to be appropriate for the potency.
Thank you guys for coming in and saving this post and posting some good ideas lol . Syn I love the Aldo idea; allowing it to be pure shield with a higher potency would be awesome , as you rarely count on aldo for healing rather more the proc crit for shield , if the base shield was already high our job wouldn't circle around that one proc.
lol too funny XD Anyway. Meh I feel like the faeries are all they can be I really don't know who another would happen or even if it would fit in with the Scholar. Why Choose the 3rd fairy over Eos or Selene. Maybe have it as the AoE pet? I know Eos has the HoT AoE, but this fairy could have a somewhat medica type? or something similar.
