the game was designed to make DoM/W/L/H codependent. Shout for a carpenter and ask nicely. For that matter, anyone who reads this thread and is on besaid, send me a tell, I would be glad to make you one. Otherwise go to the carp guild in gridania and see if you can get help there as well.

Have you guys tried the item search within the market wards? There has to be someone who wants to get rid of an older shield. There is usually 5 of the bronze hoplons, and should be under 20k.
