Did your race help determine your job ?

I came from FFXI so my race choice was predetermined. In that game it was more important what your race was based on the kind of job you wanted play. For example you hardly ever saw any Galka (Rogy equivalent) as a Caster Type, due to their low mind/int and mana. Just as well you didn't see many Tarutaru (Lala's) tanks either.

This is not to say there weren't people out there who didn't make it work, but it was more of a rare occurrence (or some one just leveling the job for the subjob).

Now comes FFXIV, so I figured the races would have a more class/job oriented statistical gain, but I was wrong. Sure I may have slightly less HP then the other races, but in the end it doesn't really matter. For me it was between the Miqo'te and the Lala anyway. I find the Lala's to be more cute.

I suppose in a way it did at the start. In beta I was a male miqo'te thaumaturge, while my female roe was a pugilist. But later I just did all classes on my roe and decided that scholar+weaver will be what I do most stuff with.

Nope, although looking back I suppose a highlander Marauder was quite fitting. But I just wanted a good looking character.

To be honest the extra vitality a Roe gets is kind of nice but it was not why I chose her. I started as a female kitty and realized that I really didn't connect with that character, so I made a cool looking Roe and we have been in love ever since.

I always been a healer in RPs I done, so I became a healer here, race be damned.

I planned on trying all races so i wasn't too concerned but since this was my 1st legit mmo, i picked hyur cuz it looked normal lol.

It didn't determine my main race, but it helped me determine the clan. I wanted to be a Miqo'te or Lalafell, and in both cases I chose the more magic oriented of the clans they have. I wound up going with Miqo'te because I liked the way they looked with armor more.

I did pay attention to stats to some degree when making characters, but really choose for lore at first. Main at launch was Keeper Miqo'te then changed to Highlander; when I came back remade her from scratch to Miqo'te but Seeker.... Now main is back to Highlander. My alt was keeper and is now plainsfolk lala (stricktly because they had better dex then dunesfolk) though I miss my Miqo'te. Will probably give the new race a shot on alt before going back, unless I love the look/lore of them. I also have an elezen, though I don't play her at all; and I had a Roe that was remade into the elezen.

I went with mithra/miqote in both xi and xiv because i have so much fun playing the race. As for subrace in xiv sary is a keeper of the moon for the big eyes that say "feed me senpai" :3

So I recently changed my Highlander to a Keeper. Why? Because I really like what the new race looks like and was thinking to get into the mood of using a human/beast hybrid I should change to a Miqo'te. I made her pretty so she's not too bad. And I also like the nice (small) buff to my stats. I miss my Highlander but this new look is growing on me.
