The Unfortunate Nexus: PLDs Who Forgot to Soulglaze One or the Other

Happened to a friend in my FC. He forgot to soul glaze the shield and found out during completion of his sword.

Actually what I would suggest would be shortening the amount of light their Curtana needs to like 1400 and the Holy Shield to 600. That way it's more like the previous steps.
Zenith required 2 Oil things for the sword and 1 for the shield.
Animus required 6 books for the sword and 3 for the shield.

But keep in mind that to continue with the relics, both the sword and the shield need to be Nexus.
This would require a bit of new coding tho since they will have to change the Examine texts to lower numbers for the sword and even lower for the shield, but shouldn't be much of a problem. But just a freebie no. Absolutely not.

This would only be fair if the PLD were also allowed to build light on only one of the two pieces at a time, or if light from a run was assigned randomly to one piece or the other (but not both). It's fair the way it is right now. While a PLD does have to earn twice as many points as any other job, they also have the ability to earn points twice as fast (since they can equip two relics at once). While a PLD has to earn twice as many points, they only have to do exactly as many dungeons, trials, maps, etc as any other job.

The best way for SE to prevent this tragedy would be to require a PLD soulglaze both pieces at once - but this may not appeal to folks going for a "cheap" relic by upgrading ONLY the sword or ONLY the shield, and using other equipment for the other piece. Maybe a warning in the quest dialogue when you soulglaze one piece that the other will not be upgraded unless you soulglaze it, too? There's only so much SE can do to hold people's hands...

I thought that was implied lol. That's why I have examples. You can't work on 2 books at once for Animus. A character only gets X amount of light per Duty, regardless of how many Novus they have equipped. Jalzhan would have an option for PLDs asking which Novus you want to work on first. Whichever option you choose (Curtana or Holy Shield), that is the Novus that fills with light before the other.

There's also the possibility that they only worked up the sword because, well, the Soldiery and Poetics shields have been pretty good stand-ins for it leaving you free to ignore the Holy Shield. On top of that, the relic quests are annoying as hell for one weapon, heaven forbid two! Those with more than one relic past atma have been graced by RNGesus as a chosen one.

its my first novus so i had no ideal how novus farm works so i keep farming garuda and wonder why dont i get light and people would know how much light they have gotten.... so i asked them and they say did i soulglazed i was like wtf is that!? that was 3 hours after grinding on my ninja before i found out i need to soulglaze it.....

Seconding this. This is more in line with the other steps. Only one could gain light at a time, with the Curtana Novus taking precedence if both are equipped. Holy Shield Novus gains 0 light if Curtana Novus is equipped and not at 1400/1400.

EDIT: I changed my mind, the light can spill over from Curtana Novus when it's full. No reason for them to have to stop and go Nexus the Curtana before working on the Shield.

You should never underestimate the power that is tunnel vision.

I don't know how big of an issue this is. None of the PLD's I know made that mistake. And it's sort of a deserved slap on the wrist for not paying attention whats-so-ever. It's pretty blatantly obvious that you need to glaze and carry both. If you give people who do this an easy fix they may just end up making the same mistake in future upgrades or new relics(assuming you need to carry them again at some point).

I can confirm that I did this myself. My thought was that I could only do one item at a time just like the Animus books. I was mistaken and missed out on 400 lights by the time I realized. That's okay because it wasn't too hard to make up what was left. But I feel bad for anyone that had to do 4000 lights.
