This is the first thing that came to my mind when I was reading the interview...and pretty much the only thing that worries me...you just know these kind of things will happen (if there is a way to do them), there's no if or maybe lol

Lots of MMOs these days have this kind of system and since it's "standard" it has to be in FFXIV based on people's complaints. It depends on how they decide to implement the system since each game is slightly different.
I've yet to see anyone scared of PvP, it's really pointless content and almost always becomes the focus of the MMO if the PvP system is anywhere near decent.
if my memory is right they said that the first one who attack (solo or party ) will get the items/sp
Well they did say if something was overly done they can make adjustments and will try to make adjustments quickly to fix it right at the end of that interview. We'll see how the system is and if it needs fix right away after players test since dev testing seems to always have holes... we can tell them to get it fixed.
Personally I like this new idea and makes sense, + for harder NM's like HNM style they did say they were going to make them more instance based so it should solve lots of problems we saw in FFXI imo.
All in all the claim system will simply not work in any way, there is just no way it will with a competitive endgame.
The mpk will run rampant and endgame groups will not want to work together to gear rival groups or allow free loaders to get into the fight and possibly get anything. It is simple endgame mechanics in any mmo real endgame is competitive.
As other said people will not just start working together... they will simply start mpk each other is large mpk wars. Look at FFXI before the /blockaid command... that is what you will have here more or less. Except with players legitimately being able to attack your mobs and just "be bad at hate control" when helping kill a mob... nothing GMs will be able to do about some piece of crap killing your entire party to make a point.
SE talking about most Rare drops coming from instanced fights is also a massive negative.... I love half the things this dev team does and the other half I just question completely. Devs seem to only think things through half way most the times in this game.
imagine fighting an nm with 3 groups of 8 and getting drops that only drop when attack with 20+players. Also thin of this nm as having several different target areas like a 3 headed dragon. It would be awesome.
I think they should just keep the claim system as is. If they want to tackle bots, then why not create a 3 second window after the mob has been engaged. Anyone else who tags it in that window has an equal chance to get the claim. It's fair, lag doesn't matter, it doesn't open up griefing opportunities and bots would offer no advantage over any other player.
