The "no base class" for DRK and the fact it comes in 3.0 leads me to believe they will finally get rid of the classes and revamp the current jobs. To me this sounds far more feasible.
It would be a complete mess if DRK would have two roles, but no base class. Meanwhile, Arcanist would turn into two jobs whilst the rest of the classes would have only one. If they then decide to add jobs to those classes, they would have the attributes and cross class ability limitations which would probably lead to a boring job. If they'd decide, like with NIN, to add another class, it would be yet another class with one job coming out of it. So why have classes in the first place?
It's just messy right now and I think they made up their mind for 3.0.

I just really hope they get it right this time whether abolishing Classes or better supporting Job diversity (ahem bad SMN design).
