I suppose I technically bought my coeurl mount and baby behemoth minion, but at the time I was wanting to support the relaunch as strongly as I could, especially since I didn't have to buy the actual game again (legacy and what not). I rather enjoy collecting mounts and minions and don't want a significant number of them to be purchasable instead of some form of in game acquisition. I'm fine with pairing tangible items with in game items, however, as it mostly just tells other players, 'hey, I bought the soundtrack/ artbook/etc.'. I'd really prefer that they not build new minions/ mounts/ furniture/ anything else and ask themselves, 'is this for a quest, recipe, dungeon, or $5?'
If it does stick to vanity, it's not ideal to me, but it's not terrible. I'm not saying it won't stick to vanity, but it is 1 step closer to selling useful items. It wouldn't even have to be game breaking, but I can certainly imagine them selling advantages. Hell, in FFXI they sold an item (tied to a real item) that allowed for a daily otherwise impossible teleport function. It was actually quite expensive, though I forget what it was called.
To me the retainers are already close to the line, if not over. They can say that they offer that extra 200 inventory spaces (plus even more room for shards/crystals/clusters if you happen to be insane) and so there's no immediate need for more inventory space. The same can happen with other items. 'We don't need to add any more minions/ mounts/ vanity gear. There's plenty on the cash shop!'
Keep in mind that at the begining wow's cash shop was cosmetic only and that they would never sell an ingame advantage.
And now for the low low price of (iirc) $50 you can buy a level 90 with max level professions.
It may not come to that in this game, but i would prefer the infrastructure to never be implemented in the first place.
Then I guess you will mind, undoubtedly a portion of that vanity will be sent off to the cash shop. On the brought side, at least I won't have to forum (x) amount of extreme runs to get my pony...
In fact, if I do get this Odin mount via the cash shop, it would be my very first primal pony! I just hope they do not cross that line...when they break immersion to put non-sense vanity/mounts in the cash shop, i.e like a CAR/PLANE mount, or lightsaber to glamour.
