THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION TO PREPAID
You can get a paypal mastercard debit card for your paypal account. I did. All you have to do I apply and I think be verified. It is not a credit application and you don't even get a credit check. It's more like a how have you been using your paypal account check. Have you cheated any ebay buyers out of money. Stuff like that. I got mine right away and here's how it works. I put in a mastercard number just like a credit card. It hits any balance I have on my paypal account first then goes for my bank account for the remainder. If I don't have a balance it just hits my bank for the full amount. I'm assuming your either carrying a balance or have a bank you transfer funds from to paypal. I can't see how you could be using paypal any other way. Try that option and if it don't work out at least you tried.

The time cards are a rip off unless you are just doing the standard account. Cause you end up paying the smae amount for 60 days regardless of if you have a standard accout, Legacy account, or entry level account. They need to fix that...

EDIT: Then I noticed that the awesome OP already quoted me from another thread. Thanks! My other account is legacy and I found it out after the fact. I'm going to contact support today and see if I can get something resolved.

A way to fix it would be if we can buy crystas with these cards instead of playtime.

Also just a note, since were not all americans (shock!)
I am a Canadian and last time I checked, the Mogshop or w/e its called doesn't accept Canadian CC or prepaid CC.

Which is weird since, the SE min store accepts them. So this might be a pain for me, luckily I have enough Crysta for my next month from when UP was still up

I still dont understand why paypal isnt an option directly. almost everywhere you go these days, its there, its like walking into a store and they dont take interact. While it may not kill a buisness it certainly is a lost opportunity.

Even if they did it like Felis said above; Use the time cards to purchase Crysta and then the problem is solved.

EDIT: and the difference between paypal and credit cards (even prepaid) is i'm spending my own money, no interest, no user fees, and it comes directly from my bank account. I despise credit cards, they are of the devil... ;)

^. It's a simple question because if paypal is your only way to pay, how do you do..none gaming stuff? In order to get checks and such the government has to recognize you, which means you can not only easily get a paypal card, but any other card. The "we live in the styx!" isn't an excuse because even in SEA like the Philippines you have numerous options and if you know anything about some SEA countries..it's not exactly a bustling metropolis.

Well, as long as you pay the card back as soon as you incur the cost there's no interest to pay. In fact this is one of the best ways of getting a good credit rating, which will serve you well later in life.

Also, I pay by debit card. There's no more convenient way.

If i may, I might have at least one way to answer your question. For me at any rate.

I despise credit cards and the fact that it is not spending my own money but a "credit" on which they charge interest and service fees.
- sure I can pay it off as soon as I put it on but there is still a charge for usage
- Yes I did have to use a credit card for PayPal to start it up (used my wife's since I do not have one, that took a long time to convince for that one.)

I much prefer to use paypal for payment instead of putting credit card information on every new site I wish to purchase something from, the more times/places you put it, the greater chance for fraud or other such issues.

Any PayPal using site will always direct you to the paypal site to approve the transaction, so you arent having to reenter information all the time. It is a secure site and one i trust.

I could use prepaid time cards but they are a rip off for legacy accounts, cannot get retainers, fantasia, etc.

I could get a prepaid VISA card but again, there are extra charges and fees just to spend my own money.

I've seen some screenshots of some form of debit card payment, I don't think its available in Canada, if it is, its not clearly labeled. Another beef I have is with how cryptic their billing methods have always been since FFXI. I like League of Legends and how clear and concise it is to pay for RP (my bank account may not agree with that but...)

So, you could call me cheap or stubborn or whatever, i really don't care. I dislike Credit Cards, and dislike them even more over the internet. I don't think we are asking for the moon to have the kind of payment option that is available for so many other merchants. I also don't understand why you are pushing back against this so much. There are many good reasons not to use CC for payment and personally if it comes down to CC only, I will probably not be playing. That makes me sad, cause I like this game and I'm enjoying it. There are several ways they can fix it and I do hope they look into some of them. They were mentioned in this thread and a couple others. I now have 2 months of game time, I hope they can get something figured out in the mean time, even if its just a time adjustment for Legacy players.

I think there is still a useage fee for the credit card even though you pay it off right away, but still, its the money shuffle game that could easily be avoided. As for building credit, there are better ways to do that where its a good debt, CC's are bad debt thats why the interest rates are so high. I'm 35 and still dont have one and don't plan to any time soon. I have a vehicle and a mortgage, both build credit score (mine is excellent BTW) and you have something to show for it in the end, good debt.

I will have to look at the options closer next time and see if there is a debit option for Canadians, they all looked like CC's to me. While i would prefer the security of PayPal, the Debit might also work.

Well, I just got out of a chat with a rep and I'm a little disappointed.

There is only Credit Card options in Canada and the alternative method of payment is the time cards which is 60 days for a flat rate.
They are looking into more methods of payment in the future but cant say much more beyond that
They could not offer a credit in crysta or anything.

Buyer beware.

I'm not terribly surprised but I would like it if there was some little "*" warning that said this. I really hope they can get it sorted out by December when my time runs out. Hope this answers most of the questions in this thread even if it might not be the answers we were hoping for.
