Any chance of implementing a source for Waterproof Cotton?

Culinary/fishing desynth is the easiest craft to lvl. I got mine to 60 just desynthing trash fish I got while lvling. I've got plenty of bait left over to keep going to 80+. Just doing goldsmith desynth first. Which gold desynth cost hundreds of thousands of Gil or much more time gathering up the mats required. Don't try and use desynth as an excuse, especially when it's the easiest one to lvl and cost less then 200k

It's easiest in the lower levels. LTW is easier from 60-80. Those horrible i50 garlean masks are a throw-away item on the market board (or are easily farmed when doing dailies/animus book grinds/etc). My CUL is around 74 (i've put desynth on hold - too many things to do), but where I'm at a 2 star fish gives between .1 and .2 (closer to .2 last time I tried it). Great right? Eh no. I've only got a 56% chance of success to get that improvement and these are special condition catch fish.

Mahi Mahi are easier, but one star fish give, and this is from memory so forgive the imprecision, at or less than .1 with a mid 70s chance of success. So I can understand the OPs frustration.

Edit: The other problem is that they may have been focusing on something other than CUL. I wish SE would let us level all of the desynth options because the chance of only having 3 at near max sucks

Unfortunately, I don't see glamour items decreasing in value for a long time. I think it's really sad that the most expensive items in this game do almost nothing for you (glamour/furniture). But, until Yoshi let's us crafters make something seriously viable end-game, I don't think this will ever change.

I hate to say it, but I miss the materia system from 1.0 where you could risk a ton of materia/gil to get a quadruple meld, but once you did you had something comparable or at least on par with end-game gear (and would in turn, be expensive and net a nice profit!!).

You act like cul desynth is unique in this way. If you have a 50% chance on a 2 star item, every desynth is going to get +.3 to +.45 skill ups, Also when getting skill ups I only use items from 50-70% success because of the amount of skill is better. I know I can get to lvl 67 desynth using hover worms in coer. From just about every fish I catch so yeah that's still way easier then any other craft. One Google search and the first 4 results tell you use takati from urth to go from 70-78. Also their is an old thread on this forum from launch of 2.3 that was all about discovering WC and it showed every known way, a simple forum search would have answered the ops question, instead he argues. He could go lvl desynth and ask for help with it, instead he argues. I found my own way to lvl GSM desynth that wasn't in any guides and I have spent way less Gil for lots for more lvls, and judging by mb prices im not the only one who does it this way. If you want to take it slow that's your choice.

Easiest way imo to lvl cul desynth is fish up silver sov's for your i70 rod, and desynth the nq's and hq's if you already have the rod/hat.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know the diminishing returns thing is universal. The difference is that one relies on RNG (CUL) and the other just on being able to speed craft stuff. I can create a stack of aetheryte rings and do a stack of desynth at once. Catching 1 and 2 star fish to help you level can sometimes be a painful task, no matter how well geared you are.

I'll now be doing this next time I pick up CUL, thanks for that. Early on I had found a few suggestions. I normally check them out again when I decide to throw myself at this.

No argument there. I found a few alternate suggestions that could be desynthed in a single search.

It saves on the frustration. I do SB'ing the same way. Keeps it from becoming painfully tedious.

The only really possible issue is if the OP had already had (nearly) maxed out three other desynths. We don't know if that's the case because that bit was never mentioned. If so....well that sucks. I have to coordinate effort's with my wife when we jump into this stuff (I've got LTW/GSM/CUL and she has ALC/WVR/BSM) and that still leaves crafts uncovered. Up side? I get any judge rays she fishes up.

Thanks, This is the approach I'm using too. I've been incredibly lazy...uh...busy about getting this done. I've got main hands for BTN/MIN, this is the one I'm slacking on

Why??? Who the <moogle> knows.

I shelled out 1.9m for 2 pieces of cotton and considered that a steal compared to the usual cost of 1.4m a piece they tend to sell for.

WoW does this too.

* Pets and mounts are gated behind faction grinds or content with a weekly lockout.
* The best looking transmog outfits are gated behind content with a weekly lockout.
* Mount options like the vial of the sands requires an RNG in RNG grind of archeology and expensive components once you get the recipe.
* Good looking green items are rare drops from a single slow spawning obscure mob and go for ridiculous amounts on the auction house.


As for the gear, you can get JP/VP gear (the equivalent of myth/sold gear) pretty easily, just like here.

I'm pretty sure this is a blessing. Suppose there is endgame gear X. You either need engame gear X to be taken seriously as a raider, or you need endgame gear X to do endgame stuff at all without spending all your time eating dirt. The trouble is, endgame gear X is crafted; it's hard to craft, and requires ridiculously rare materials.

Now you're in the situation where endgame gear X has ridiculously high demand compared to supply. The price goes through the roof. Only gilbuyers and people who are crazy good at making money can possibly compete in endgame. Everyone else is left in the cold. The forums light on fire, and with darned good reason.

Now, consider the alternative, which is what we have now. Endgame gear is accessable to everyone who does endgame, and also to some who don't. Only glamour items are suffering from ridiculously high demand compared to supply - and you know what? Not being able to dress your character in a coeurlskin bikini isn't going to affect your progress through the game. If you really want it, you can scrimp and save until you can afford it, but no one is going to kick you from party for not having one when you join Party Finder for Binding Coil of Bahamut Turn 36.

As sour as it makes me as a crafter, I see the wisdom in making glamour items the primary source of profit for crafters, rather than actual endgame equipment. I don't have to like it, but it makes sense.

Vanity swimwear is all CUL has going for it on desynthesis. No demimateria there.

Catch and desynth your own okey-dokeys if you don't want to pay that much, or start /sh and PF to buy direct. At least half of the sellers of the lei/coeurl gears would be happy to get rid of those things for less than [your server's exorbitant AH price here] if you make contact and haggle.
