Put it in another thread but I suppose if they were looking for feedback-
My favorite memory of all the FF's are the world aesthetics, I love the environments and music. So.. good job here, and in previous games- SE team! :D
For environments I'd like to see or changes, I'd like to see some quiet enchanted locations (FFXI had a lot of that, that peaceful yet enchanted feeling and then accompanying music that burns the location forever in your mind). I want to see some wild dungeon like Memoria (FFIX). Chocobo paradise (FF's, but FFIX is stuck in my mind for the cute and whimsical feeling of the garden and paradise).. Also If possible, a sprawling non-copy pasta location (FFXIV 1.0 but better lol). I miss running around old Coerthas and the long distance view of Thanalan XD (but I dont miss the copy paste lol)
Current environments, please less invisible walls - I understand without swimming there are a lot of no go locations, so.. add that later? But there are a lot of locations that also make little sense to be blocked, off the top of my head example is the bridge in North Shroud before getting into Fallgourd. Heading towards the outpost, instead of crossing the bridge cross by the river on the left, it looks like you can cross the river that heads to a drop off - well you can't and the water is clearly traversable (not deep at all). Get this stuff out of here, invisible walls are jarring.. except for the walls keeping us from falling into nothingness/edge of the world, no walls anywhere ;_; please (may have to flesh out areas currently inaccessible, but that could be part of the experience of exploration- jumping puzzles and hidden paths). Leading from the previous line, secret areas are awesome. If possible jumping puzzles/hidden pathways and "secrets" of the land would be nice (there are some very cool "tucked" away locations in game already, but they're very visible on the map and just out of the way).
Revamp of the vista system (sightseeing) is probably not your department but it relates to the maps - I have negative desire to do any vista that is not in the zone I'm in, at the time I'm near, with the weather I know is coming or happening.. lol. Some change would be nice. Perhaps a timelapse scene, so whatever time you are- timelapse to the scene the developers wanted you to see and then time lapse back.
I agree with others here, the world and its maps are very well done and quite beautiful. If I had to find something to critique I think it would be that there are so many locations that we can see, but can't get to.
In camp overlook for example there are several tree house like buildings with bridges between them but we can't actually go up in them and explore, or how Ul'dah is a bustling metropolis yet as players we only have access to the broad streets and not very many individual buildings, and Revenant's Toll is getting bigger and bigger but most of those buildings are for show as we can't climb its watchtowers or use the stairway that reaches up the mountainside.
I know lots of the areas we can see but can't get to are probably being reserved for future content, but I would appreciate more access to the world that we already have.
There should be more tiny life on the maps. Little non-enemy critters, bugs, frogs, birds, fish, etc.
I'd love to see a map/fight that takes place on a map where you "fall" like the waterfall in FFVI just before fighting Ultros.
I'd love to see a map that was small in size, but changes in layout based on time of day that led to different areas.
I would like to see open world mobs doing something on their patrols. For instance a magitec armor being worked on, or a sahagian fishing.
Also new encounter starts in open world such as the Zu in unhidden leather maps that appears by swooping in from the sky. So its aggro area would be there and we can't see them and for instance walking wouldn't aggro them similar to how it doesn't aggro morbols.
Also I thought the traps on hullbreaker would be interesting in open world in small random quanities in certain zones. Also the sand bursts from cutter's cry or the flame pools would be cool in certain areas like a connection tunnel from sagoli to a new zone. They would give the zone mor character and people would hate that but its would be very memoriable but at the same time you would get use to avoiding them.
I don't want any invisible walls. Not paying attention and walk off a cliff... your fault. Really get rid of all the invisible walls.
Less invisible walls would be nice. They make sense in places like Bentbranch where people used to get stuck in that hole in the center of the camp during beta. In other places, not so much.
I don't mind aetherytes because Eorzea is supposed to be a fully-colonized continent. The city states' presence has to be notable in pretty much all regions connected, otherwise you have the headscratching level design that FFXI had where outside the city gates you had no indication of the three nations having any sort or power or sway.
I have to say, I've never really had much trouble with invisible walls in this game... For the most part they feel reasonable. The Sahagin Landbase is probably the only issue I've had, and I agree that should be addressed. Following Sakasas' suggestion, they could make the pools function similarly to the final boss of Hullbreaker; you walk into one and it fires you out.
They could add similar things to all the beast camps. That would actually go a ways to making the beast encampments feel dangerous, or interesting if nothing else.
