Coerthas has the best of both worlds so far imo, just needs a dangerous zone (that chasm is kind of dangerous if you were in the 30s... agroable monsters that could kill you if you fell down).

You also have to take into consideration 1.0 was never finished and pretty much in all level design, it will be fairly barren from the start. Another thing a lot of people didn't realize was the 'copy paste' also was done due to the soft zoning in the "seamless world", so it kept the world looking consistent but you'll notice it when you're looking for it.
