I can't say since I perfer the Gunblade class/job of FF series but the Gunblade class/job doesn't have a official name.
I don't mind as long as it can get what it's trying to be out there.
Personally I don't mind the whole class -> job naming though I think if it was handled better it would be more accepted.
Wasnt that for English version only? IIRC jpn version always used cure/cura/curaga. (sorry, just noticed that u specifically said the NA classic names =P)
I just wish the translator would deviate a little less. When I hear Paladin I DO think they should be "holier", but if they were named Knight in english, that would be cool (cause thats what they are, just some glorified Gladiators that are the sultana's personal bodyguard, iir the lore correctly =P)
Classic all the way in my opinion.
But for this game specifically, classic for the jobs and new for the classes is perfectly fine with me.
And I'd really like to see some -ara, -ga, and -ja spells sooner or later (curaga, blizzara, firaja, etc.).
Remember we have a potentially unlimited number of levels to go with expansions : D
Cura could be coming to a WHM near you soon!
To be honest, "Paladin" is actually far more accurate to the real usage of the word in FFXIV than in most RPG's. Something a lot of people don't know, is the term "Paladin" actually refers (to my knowledge) to an elite sect of personal guards in France, back in... the 1600's, I believe. So really, being an off-shoot of "bodyguards for a French noble" is closer to "a bodyguard of the Sultana", than it is "light-wielding warrior".
Back on point, though... Like I said, not all of the New names have been home-runs, but I just think some of the "Classic" names just sound more generic than they ought to, and not sure they even fit the setting. Like I said, we're already dealing with White and Black Mages, and if they introduce Red and Blue Mages, I think it would just kind of detract from their individual flavor. And again... as much as I want a Dark Knight-style Class, if it's actually *CALLED* a Dark Knight, I don't think we'll ever live down the Batman references.
