I'd recommend raising each of your classes to 15, one by one, and seeing which one you like enough to take further. I just brought DRG from 1-50 because it was pretty much the only DPS job that clicked for me. And I'm now finally dragging my PLD up to 50 after leaving it languishing at 35 for six months, simply because I just finished going through 50 levels, so 15 more levels (5 left right now) was no longer a huge burden to me.
Provided you take the time to get your configuration right this is true. Things like toggled and extended crossbars are essential though, as are macros for some jobs. You really would struggle with the default settings in most of the harder content.Quote:
Every job is very playable even all the way to turn 9 on a controller.
Step 1: Get something anything to level 50 first. *[Preferably a Disciple of War/Magic]
You asked "What jobs are best for me?" That depends on your playing style;
Tanks
Gladiator / Paladin; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/paladin.php
is a tank job which uses defensive tactics to hold enmity. It is still capable of dealing decent damage however you would not play Paladin if you care about your damage output. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Warrior; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/warrior.php
Warrior is a tank job capable of holding enmity through high damage output. While it can function as a damage dealing job its primary role in battle will be to tank so that you are not forced to bring a Paladin to every party. The job branches off the Marauder class. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Healers
White Mage; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/white-mage.php
White Mage is a classic healing job that branches off Conjurer. Its role is to restore the HP of party members that take damage from monsters, cure bad status effects from party members and to revive fallen members of the party upon death. The White Mage can also deal damage with Holy, Aero and Stone but this should be seen as secondary to everything else. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Scholar; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/scholar.php
Scholar is a healing job that branches off Arcanist. Its role is to restore the HP of party members that take damage from monsters, cure bad status effects from party members and to revive fallen members of the party upon death. The Scholar can also deal damage with DoTs just like Arcanist and Summoner but this should be seen as secondary to everything else. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Damage - Melee
Dragoon; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/dragoon.php
Dragoon is a melee damage dealing job which branches from the Lancer class. The class will deal damage using powerful abilities designed to be comboed with one another to increase their effectiveness. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Monk; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/monk.php
Monk is a melee damage dealing job which branches from the Pugilist class. It is quite complex compared to the other damage dealing jobs and requires a lot of thought and movement to play right. Most abilities can only be used when in the right form. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Damage - Ranged
Black Mage; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/black-mage.php
The Black Mage is a classic magic damage dealing job making use of the elements of Fire, Ice and Lightning as well as crowd control mechanics such as Sleep and Bind. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Summoner; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/summoner.php
The Summoner is a classic magic damage dealing job making use of the power of primals to boost their damage. Damage over time skills are also highly important for the summoner as this is where a lot of their damage will come from. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
Bard; http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/bard.php
Bard is a support job that branches off the damage dealing class Archer. The idea behind the job is that it sacrifices some damage in order to buff party members via songs. This guide will talk about how to play the job at level 50 and it should be noted that it may not be the only way to play it. Others may disagree, but see it as a starting point and build on it from there.
I still don't know which to pick?
It's hard to decide, but tanks and healers are in short supply however DPS have considerably less pressure to perform optimally early on giving you more time to 'learn' the game.
I highly recommend starting off with a tank or a healer first, and it helps you get a foothold on the mechanics of the game and the overall timing and pacing, whilst throwing yourself into a job that requires more responsibility than simply dealing damage.
Tanking will get you the fastest queues for content in the Duty Finder, as will healing. Consider this for your first Level 50 Job carefully before deciding!
Think of leveling other classes as "Something else to do", only leveling is going to be excruciatingly boring in FFXIV for any person, there is a great deal of Level 50 content for you to try out instead, which actually offers a decent challenge.

There's a vast array of content for you to try out amoungst other things, don't just do the same thing every-day there's a wide variety of content to try.
I say play something else for a while. It's easy to get burned out on an MMO (or any game really), but having some variety in what you play can really make it fun again.
it's a great time to own a PS3. So many games that reached Game of the Year status are going for $10 (or practically free if you have PS+). I recommend Borderlands 2, pretty much the opposite style of gameplay, but you can still level and loot hoard.
I stepped away from FF14 for a while and came back recently. I'm enjoying it a lot more now that I have a fresh perspective.
