Well, there are no plural in japanese so maybe it's a mistranslation.

Could also still be mandragora, as each one dies it merges with another, eventually becoming megadragora

Didn't he say the strange character was someone we could have seen in the background of the Hildebrand quests ? I remember reading something like that a while ago.
