Dear all Free Companies

If you haven't even been accepted into the FC and are already getting pissed off by them, might be a good idea to withdrawal and apply elsewhere.

As for your FC not reviewing apps in a timely manner (I think that's part of what you were saying) may want to take that up with the FC leader, he or she may not be in charge of those reviews and might not have the slightest idea that it's going on.

I'm an officer in my FC. We received an application a few days ago from someone who had previously been in our FC. I don't know why this person left in the first place (whether it was voluntary on his part or if he was kicked for whatever reason - I was not around when it happened), but all that was written on the application was ".-." or something like that. I'm assuming that applicants can put an actual message in this place? Now, considering I had no idea why this person was applying again, I decided to wait until the right people (higher up officers than I am) were online to decide whether or not to accept this person's application. While waiting, he withdrew his application.

Really, the only reason I knew this guy's application was received was because I was online just hanging out when it came in, and I saw the message in the chat log. I would have had no idea otherwise. I usually check the FC activity when I first log in for the day, but it's usually filled with gardening stuff ("So-and-so tended to whatever garden patch"). Is there a way to get gardening stuff off that tab? I don't need to know every single time someone waters the garden.

When recruitment was still open in my FC, I would let the application linger... and for one very specific reason: there are people who join FCs and attempt to clean out anything they can from the chest. I give all of my members access to tab 3 (pots, food, etc) so there is easily a few million gil in products at everyone's disposal. I trust my members, but I don't trust random low levels that apply with generic messages like: "I want to join" even though they are a level 15 on their first job and have spoken to NO ONE about the FC or why they want to join. This may be presumptuous of me, but I have seen it happen several times -- and it's better to be safe than sorry. If I let applications linger, I'll see that they get withdrawn, and then that person applied and was accepted to another company... and then I hear about them swiping the chest and laughing about it (it's technically NOT against ToS since the FC leader allowed people of that rank to access certain things... aka, there's nothing you can do about it). That is exactly why I have taken down the ability to just apply to my FC. Anyone who speaks with us directly is more than welcome to join, but I do not just like blind invites or applications because that can lead to trouble. Whenever someone would apply with a realistic application (more than just "I want to join"), I would seek them out and chat with them.

Thanks for the info. Yeah with that, I really don't see a problem then. The FC can approve or deny on their whim, and the person who applied can just withdraw if they want to join a different FC.

I resolved this problem. Our applications are off.

If you are interested into a specific FC, you can see the name's leader; if you see someone around with the same FC, you can talk to them. You can send me a Tell, have a little chat, and then we will tell you upfront if we would be pleased to have you among our ranks, for the better of the community, or not.

It feels like the cell phones nowadays: no one talks directly, everyone is sending txt msg... sigh..

So those who are interested, don't be shy: not because we are closed, that we won't allow to increase our fun with nice new members, and help each other.

That way, no need for others to check if a random applicants tried to join, without even talking, it's the same than looking at players without an FC, and sending them right off a request to join <--- now THAT is rude.

On the other hand, you know who the leader of the FC you applied to is. You can help by sending this person a /tell if you see them online and mention you submitted an application.

I would just say its not that easy to notice it. If you are online you get a message sure, but otherwise you dont. If you're not regularly getting apps you might not think to check it each day. I try to check it every time I log in, but there rarely is one, then I kinda forget about it, and THATS when people start applying.

That is a solution we considered, but the frequency at which we'd receive these 'fake' applications grew to be just too much. I made the decision to just turn off applications completely. If anyone wants to join, they can just whisper one of us or ask the person they meet in the FC how to join.

So how to set up the Rank, someone gets when he joins, either I am blind or it just isnt that obvious ... just putting that here because it got mentioned
