Non HQ stuff sells just as well, throw it up on the marketboard! Also, don't exclusively go for only the big one and two star items. Don't under estimate selling stuff like malachite earrings HQ. On my server they go for like 6,000 and cost "pennies" to make. Imagine throwing a few of those up on the mb a few times everyday. And that's just one example item...

Making money in this game is all about how self-reliant you are, how much you are willing to fight with undercutters, how much time you can invest, and how many classes you have leveled. Ideally you want as many doh leveled to 30 or higher to take advantage of the cross class skills. I am an avid crafter but do not use macros while crafting. I just have an order of skill activation based on element condition to best get my HQ % as high as possible before finishing my synth with the last 5 or 10 durability I have left.
Crafting can be a gamble, but it is worth it. It may take some time and patience, but worth it in the end.

Read HQ AF gear meld and learn and understand this 100-Guaranteed-High-Quality-Tool-Items-Absolutely-NO-RNG

Start melding your jewelry and get your CP to 345 base, then start eating HQ food to get your CP to 381/388 MAX, and start using the above rotation to get your master book and iL70 Artisan's Specs.

In the process, hopefully start making gils off the MB. If materia cost is a major issue, start spiritbonding your gear and convert them for materia to save/earn gils.

I didn't start to earn gil in this game until after I had finished levelling all classes and melded the gear for them too.

basically if you have things to spend gil on its very hard to keep saving it up.

you can make gil through levelling but I was just using it on every new meld to make things easier on myself.

but yeah it really does take time to monitor your servers mb and see what you can make and sell even if its nq..a lot of people aren't willing to buy hq mats and so theres usually a market for nq mats as well. also don't be afraid to invest in some higher priced iems if there selling well. you may have to monitor your prices for a quicker sale but they can pay off.

you really have to treat it like a game all of its own as it takes time and patience to learn your servers mb and start pulling in the big gil sales, but over time you will start to earn more gil the more classes you have maxed and the more things you can hq reliably.

unfortunately there isn't a get quick rich scheme in ff14. just keep your retainers sales slot full and things will start to make you more gil eventually.
