I solo'd this as a scholar, after failing it twice, I also realized I needed to camp it to win. On the third try, instead of trying to kill the mobs faster than the NPCs died, I just healed the NPCs. That quickly earned me the ire of all the kobolds, but it was enough that I was able to kill them gradually and keep the 2 NPCs out of harms way to win it.

I beat 4 winds fate with whm and blm and of course the birds lol

Thankfully the repop timer on this FATE is pretty forgiving considering it's circumstances. As a bard, I'm pretty hard pressed to actually finish this FATE while soloing. Haev to do your best to grab aggro on both sides and position yourself so that the npcs aren't standing in the AoEs. There is also a precursor to the FATE at the front before they enter the tunnels, so you can call it out pretty reasonably (and it's a fast one to go through, ATMA hunters are more than likely to help out.)

I just did it, soloing. It was very hard but my trick was: summon your companion and get the aggro of the mobs as fast as possible and then make them face away from the supply troops. Kill them as fast and possible and then move to the other group of mobs, rinse and repeat.

Be a healer main and heal the npcs. EZ.

Everytime I had to do this fate for a book I had to literally camp it and scramble around to get the aggro off of the NPCs, I did this on BRD, SMN, WAR and I had my chocobo out healing me....it's a really annoying fate that you need to camp....idk if they'd fix it considering it's been what? 10 years?
Oh damn necro post lmao
