"Don't allow pm's from people not on your friends list" is a much better solution because if you have newbie friends starting out it's really annoying to have to wait until they are level 20 before you can send them tells.

Edit: well seems like we're all in agreement, what do you think SE? Perhaps it can be an on/off option?

It's bad enough that I can only send mail to people on my Friends list. I send /tells quite a bit, to communicate with new people, make new friends, thank someone for raising me during a tough fate, to compliment their gear/hairstyle and to ask where they got that awesome weapon. These are just random people. I don't want them all on my friends list. I will probably not interact with them again.

Better solution is to limit the number of /tells that can be sent over a given period of time. No more than 25 /tell messages a minute or something like that.

So, if we listened to some of the people posting here, I'd be unable to send tells in a dungeon (as it is currently), and outside of dungeons I'd only be able to send tells to the few people on my friends list?

This seems ridiculously restrictive. . .

It doesn't work for Aion, what makes you think it would work for FF XIV?

Being able to only send tells to people on FL is an incredibly stupid idea. There are numerous times I need to thank people or just chat to someone after an instance, and not being able to do that without friending them first would be silly.

Clearly they're doing a great job at handling this.

Til 15 unless you're on their friend list or in their FC.

Would prevent 99% of RMT spam.

Not that big of a deal if pre-15 you wanna thank someone in a /tell, they'll get that you can't send tells.

If we or SE listened and went by what some people on the forums have posted, they would have had to blow Eorzea up a 2nd time. Anyway, I disagree with the OP's idea. We need more communication, not less.

We have plenty of communication options between /s /p /yell /fc /l... are you kidding?

A limit to pre-15, even if just a filter on pre-15 would absorb so much of the RMT tells, it would save so much irritation.
