Ifrit works better than Garuda on trash mobs in dungeon where contagion is useless (mobs die before my normal dot times are over) and very little movement or target chasing is required. In general I also leave him out for bosses too unless PLD or WAR needs to time stuns. At this point I only use Garuda on Primals + Coil.

Just Rock Buster for Titan and Burning Strike for Ifrit. The best single target for Summoner is probably to have high crit using Ifrit with all the Blunt\Pierce/Slash resistance debuffs up. Too bad speed buffs don't increase AA speed for pets as well.

He's nice in T7 if you're on crowd control duty. Contagion doesn't matter much in a stand-up non-aoe fight without a lot of movement and downtime.

I think the speed buff is no free lunch... but in those crazy boss fights when your healer dies and you are still waiting for swiftcast to recharge because the other DPS died before that, You'll be glad when it's there.
and it does apply to scholars too.

So from your scenario we need the pet to crit. Have a 20% chance of it giving us the speed buff. And be in a situation where you already used your swiftcast and no one else is capable of reviving.

I don't think I have ever been in a situation like that in my entire life.
