Make it a dps chocobo with choco regen.
A dps chocobo is much better in the long run as once u settle in 50 you'll be too strong for those 50 mobs anyways.
Since you have topaz and soon to be titan egi you'll be set for tanks.
So the extra dps via your chocobo will help greatly when u need to solo content like when you do a boss fate and you are the only 1 there.

Chico Regen really isn't very potent at all. If you're making a DPS chocobo just go full DPS so you get the barding.

Yea if you are going to want your chocobo to have any healing at all it has to be Choco Cure, otherwise it's not worth investing the points in it at all.

I think I'll try the chocobo dps , thanks for the advice.

Just make sure, since SE seems to have no intentions at all to give a reset skills for chocobo, to stick to one line of skills.
As PLD main, I needed some heals for longer fights. These choco cure, not regen (which is ok but a cure here and there is good) makes me able to solo fate boss without any problems, even using Sword Oath instead of Shield Oath.
I use my choco as DPS first (Free Stance) then if things are gettng too low (either the choco is hit hard, or me) I switch to Healer Stance.
As Urth said, once you complete a skill line at rank 10, you will get a barding for either Tank, DPS, or healer. Google Image them if that's what you like.
I chose the useful way, but a cute barding is a nice bonus.
For me, playing all jobs, in fates, I found that Healer won the benefits for DPS and the like, vs Tank or DPS that my GF is wishing to have followed me (she's SMN so she DPS and have a very good tank already) ^^
