Before 2.2 RNG didn't really bother me. The game before 2.2 was designed where even if RNGezus deemed u unworthy of loot, there were earnable variants for things that were vital to progression where u could still adequately feel like you are accomplishing something and preparing yourself for future content, and the only pure RNG items were things like mounts and minions which are vanity. However after 2.2, there's not a single way to increase your weapons into any of the patch-content grade without RNG; and I've never had any good luck with anything in an MMO, just skill.
I cope by playing less, waiting to see how much patch 2.2 is either precedence or (hopefully) a timesink-delay outlyer. The way the game is designed it doesn't hurt to not really play it, every 6 months a new tomestone-ish tier will be released and everyone starts @0/450 (or whatever cap in the future) on that 1st week.
If it is precedence, i'll just quit; it goes against the pitches and promises made to sell the game. If it is an outlyer; it's wrong, it's lazy of the dev team but it's painfully manageable as long as it isn't just stacked with even more RNG mandates the next patch and the next to avoid actual new content. After all, that's all 2.2 was aside from 2nd Coil; a delay because of a lack of actual new content. New dungeons easier than the old? Then it's just a delay so we will lower the Soldiery/Myth rewards and just make the players do them more. Animus easier than Zenith? Then it's just a delay, so put a Atma RNG, FATE spawn RNG per book, and a large mythology requirement. Leviathan Hard and Ex easier than Titan Hard and Ex? Then it's just a delay, so have the Hard Mode drop nothing and keep the standard RNG and double it and put in a Mirror RNG in the Ex.
The game has always been pitched as 'casual-centric' but leaving plenty of things and challenges for hardcore players. As far as challenges, there is Coil. Nothing else in 2.2 is harder than what was already in the game. As far as 'casual-centric'? that has been discarded completely in 2.2 as far as any progression goes. RNG doesn't make things challenging, just makes them take forever for some and fly through for others, with no basis in skill what-so-ever. RNG always has a purpose for B-i-S gear, B-i-S is never 'needed' and gives the playerbase a reason to keep hitting the content. But making all patch-grade weapons require RNG, might as well be playing Everquest or Ultima Online cause even FFXI still has earnable variants lol
Some people try to counter-argue that with RNG once u do get your drop u feel a sense of accomplishment. However, this mentality is selfish, foolish, and a sign that you have no mental understanding of how things really work. What did u 'accomplish' once it finally dropped? You did the fight the same way u did the fight the 100x's before when there was no drop but there was no reason for there not to be a drop other than RNG, YOU didn't accomplish anything different when it dropped to you than all the other times you went in and got nothing. It's as foolish of a statement as when someone wins the lottery and they think they 'earned' it. If anything all u get is a feeling of relief because u no longer have to screw with the RNG for that slot, not a sense of accomplishment.

I drink...I drink a lot.
No, not really. But it is incredibly frustrating. I was wondering what other people think about us actually seeing the numbers the RNG has generated for us? As I would personal prefer to just see WIN/LOSE. Seeing that you lost a 98 roll to a 99 just makes it feel a whole lot worse, even though it is the same outcome as just seeing the word lose.

There's nothing to do about it, I just sigh and try again later (dungeons) or stop caring completely (atmas).

10 push ups every 3 FATEs with no Atma.
For everything else I just do it again.

You win some, you lose some. Would be unfair if you always won. Just because the mount dropped doesn't mean it was for you. You didn't win it, so it was for somebody else. That's how I look at it.

make a blood sacrifice to the rng gods!

I do what everyone else does. I commit Hari Kari. If I survive it means my luck has changed and I should try again. :)
What does RNG stand for? Roll Need Greed?

RNG stands for random number generator. It's the reason u dont get an atma the 100th time but the other person does 1st time. It's the reason u get a Levi weapon on a carry but the person carrying you has been trying for 3 weeks...
The other problem i see (and i'm getting about as guilty of it as others) is that people aren't logging in as much or when they log-in they feel like they logged-in for nothing, because they expect nothing because if they expect the drops they will only be disappointed. So you have FCs where once u had events and now u have only a handful of members logged in each day. You have NA server Primetime where the Party Finder only has 3 or 4 legitimate groups It's really sad and only the idiots that kicked and screamed for RNG to create a division in the playerbase so that they can feel more special when they get their RNG progression cleared think that the 2.2 inundation of RNG in all content has nothing to do with it.
The way that RNG is so screwed up is also exemplified in DoH/DoL post 2.2. i enjoyed DoH and DoL before 2.2. Was it flawed in design to where it was too simplistic? yes, but that design flaw is still there... They only mandated the Materia Melding RNG because they didnt want to actually fix Crafting flat-out. design resource accrual wrong to where u cant make a scarcity, make the playerbase be foreced to RNG meld cap their individual DoL classes but leave the gathering system broken. Players can easily guarantee they hq all their crafting attempt? Force the playerbase to RNG materia meld each individual DoH instead of fixing the crafting system that remains broken. However in 2.2 mandating the RNG of materia melding to stat caps on armor that you never know when they will make it dated, just in order to continue crafting; that blows so i immediately just gave up. Yes you always had the option to meld cap prior to 2.2 but it was optional, and honestly it was pointless and because of the gil-sink the melding process is, was best to be avoided.

I play Touhou. Then RNG in MMOs doesn't seem that bad
