How the forums are "moderated" is one of the biggest annoyances I have with FF14. I've never seen such a character limit on postings (initial ones anyway), how many posts you can make and what level you have to be to make posts. I have yet to see any kind of actual moderation on these forums and they could have some actual moderators if they asked for volunteers from the community.
I have to say it completely took me by surprise the first time I came up against my posting limit - I was in the middle of an interesting discussion, and then got hit with this limit when I tried to reply to someone, and then suddenly understood why people edited posts to reply to things that were said further down the thread (making threads very disjointed at times). I also then spent a while searching the forums to try and work out what the posting limits actually were, without success. That post that was kindly linked earlier should be stickied and prominent.
And the restrictions seem arbritarily harsh. I have become almost frightened to post in discussions that interest me, in case it becomes more involved and then I suddenly get cut off from the discussion. At least now I know what the limits actually are I can account for that, and maybe will become less reticent again (many thanks to the user who linked the post - sorry I forgot to check your name). However, it's still offputting how non-user-friendly these forums are. Every high traffic forum I use has anti-spam measures, but none as hostile and inconvenient as this for ordinary users.
The 1000-char limit is also just bizarre.
