I am at endgame in Rift, but haven't got "that feeling" in that game really.

They weren't quite role-players, but they considered their in game life and friends to be just as important as their out of game life and friends. The game would have never hooked me if it weren't for them.

It was the most fun I had ever had not including real life.

And then endgame came and ruined all that fun.
Nothing like seeing your friends wanting some piece of armor so badly they literally torment themselves with evil LS leaders, annoying endgame events, and never have time to do anything fun because "I have an event today!" It was very distressing to see the toll endgame had taken on them, particularly the torment part.

In the defense of my friend Kyyra, she did go on to become the most badass dragoon in history.

Spike flailing Nidhogg on a Japanese ls twice in a row, second time after they recovered wiping them completely.

Okay so... I don't know why this is one of my favourite experiences (let me just start by saying that).

In FFXI, we were doing one of those R20 cap mission-things that required an alliane (I forget the name). It took like two hours to get the full alliance going, and one of the Bards didn't have R20 gear or equipment so he came naked and without an instrument.

The whole way there he kept buffing everyone, and because he didn't have an instrument he kept singing "la la la la la". And we were about 10 meters away from the spawn point for the mob when one guy just lost it and went beserk and was like: "if that guy sings ONE MORE TIME, i am quitting."

The bard started buffing everyone before the fight ("la la la la la") and the one guy that threatened to leave raged and then quit the party. Then a couple others followed suit, and we were left with only a fraction of the people we started with.

We decided to just do the mission low-manned but we wanted to get organised first. Then some moron ran up to the ??? and spawned the monster without warning everyone and we all died.

It was hilarious.

lulz.

For me, probably, it was getting to a point that after 7 years off XI me and others from my ls were able to take down JoL with 7 people, and 2 mules - this is before abyssea shat on everything.

Completing Chains of Promathia missions and watching that cutscene with the gorgeous song playing in the background. I have to admit, as sad as it is, I started to cry. xD

COP was hands down the best but I loved the story line for almost all the expansions. Wotg and ToAU also rocked. I started getting pissed of when the whole mogle shenanigans begun, just destroyed the climate of the game from than. Story was probably one of my favorite 3 things about XI which makes me so pissed that XIV's lore is so poorly developed.

Agreed on all points! It did seem to take a turn for the worse, for me at least, with the addition of the mini-expansions. I loved CoP so much, I would go to Sea just to run around (avoiding UFOs of course) and take in the scenery. I really loved when you fought Promathia in that room overlooking Vana'diel, so gorgeous. I only bought Duodecim because of Prishe! lol
