And besides the Free Company housing that's currently in game, they're planning on adding personal housing. (I think it's update 2.3 that's planned for.) That will add another fun gil sink.
Gold Saucer will also be added at some point which will likely have opportunities to throw away gil.
I bought myself a Sailor Shirt, Spring dress and uhh some of them Retainer looking equips (Patrician? something like that).
I don't like the idea of making my endgame gear look like noob gear and the price of some of these items are REALLY high... so I had to both save up and cry when I pressed the purchase button :o
It's okay though, I think I look nice ^_^
Other than that, there's not much to purchase other than materials for crafting. Most gear is obtained via dungeons/other methods.
I don't know about pleasure, but I still have 6 sets of crafting gear and all my gathering gear to blow up with materia. It's proving to be an expensive endeavor - so much that I'm about to start spiritbonding gear to try to offset the costs.
When you have maxed out any of the beast tribe quests, you can invest your money in a mount (costs 120k GIL) and a companion (25K if I recall correctly). Right now there are four beast tribes in the Game and with each major patch there will be two new ones. So right now you can spend already more than half a million of GIL for these goodies. You can also check the market boards for companions you don't have yet. Some of them cost a fortune, other ones are quiet cheap.
Right now I am investing my gil into Materia for one of my crafting classes.
Later on it'll be my Fisher's turn to be reconfigured.
I'm more of a "live in the now" kind of person, while it's nice to have the personal houses later I will see when I get there.
I'm not one for having millions on the bank "for later".
As far as I am concerned, the idea of having my own room in the FC house is good enough.
