Here I though players themselves invented this workaround because there is no auto-follow system in the first place. Can't really fix what isn't there.

The lock on follow breaks when you cross the server lines. What I mean is that each region even though it looks seamless it is not, it is spread over multiple servers and when the person you are following crosses from one to the next you lose the lock on.
You can try it for yourself to see what I mean just lock on someone and auto run out of Ul'dah as you get outside they will vanish briefly and you will lose the lock on and keep running in the last direction you were facing. You can kind of tell where these invisible lines are as they thin the path out usually to make it seem more seamless while it loads you onto the next server.
If they can reconnect the lock on after the switch that would solve most problems the rest come from lag really.
Then the Auto-follow works fine. It's just the fact that you can't keep targeting your pal while crossing those zones, rite?
