Except he flat out says "Things I find pleasurable in an MMO" and goes on to explain each thing and what's lacking in this game for him. He should have left out the part about how everyone would agree with at least one, as that's likely not the case, but I certainly didn't feel like he was trying to speak for everyone with this post. Maybe you missed that bit due to horrible formatting. General forum is filled with people stating their opinions on what they feel needs to be changed to keep people around. Yup, discard all of OP's arguments by playing the subjectivity card. By all means, keep fooling yourselves.

No open world content, no feeling of accomplishment, no challenge, no diversity, no sense of community. All key elements of an MMORPG, whereas this is a game where platform players would have an easier time than RPG players.

I'm afraid the patches/expansion packs won't fix any of this unless SE changes their direction with the game.

I Feel exactly as the OP. I would just add that there's no RP content either since the world feels empty and pointless.

I wasn't throwing out is argument. I was asking for suggestions. I didn't see any suggestions in his rant. It was just a rant. Suggestions are nice.

(And I I completed my first relic yesterday, and I feel quite pleased with myself. Is that not a sense of accomplishment?)

OP: your post was well written and I agree with most of your points.

I want to reply to a few of the comments made in other's posts, or common viewpoints that will pop up in this thread eventually.

One - if you don't like the game, why are you still here?

Multiple reasons which may be different per person:
- friends in game
- time invested
- subscription time left
- FF fan
- no other MMO they're interested in at the moment

There are reasons we are still playing. We're not saying the game is a horrible, unplayable mess, it has some good points, but we want to see it get better.

That's a key point, we want to see it get better. That's why everyone gives suggestions and feedback. If you don't agree with the OP and/or don't want to get into a 'subjective argument' then when you've read what you're going to read out of the OP, just leave the thread, please.

Yes, yes we can. When the comparison has to do with core mechanics and overall design philosophy. You can compare any game to another no matter how long they've been online when you're comparing CORE fundamentals of the game and not just amount of content available.

Most of the threads similar to this one are not necessarily comparing the amount of content, but the fundamental structure and design philosophy of the game.

Yes, of course it is. Most of the threads here are someone's opinion, and everyone has differing opinions. Discounting a thread you disagree with as someone's opinion is like saying bacon is worthless because it's only your opinion that it's good.

Despite the great amount of problems the game has, as well as the fact I don't agree with some direction Yoshi-P is taking, I enjoy my time in ARR. Is it perfect? No. Does it need a lot of things redone or fixed? Hell yeah. Do I find these problems horrible enough to not play? Not really.

I'm still playing because I love the world, the characters, the adventure, despite all of the problems. I enjoy looking forward to new story content, I enjoy watching the FC I and friends run grow, I enjoy the minor events we get, I enjoy the small QoL fixes we get in patches, as well as the major stuff we get in updates. It's fine to be unhappy with the state of the game as it is, and I agree it does have a lot of problems. But honestly, nothing is going to be done by just ranting about what's wrong with the game. I didn't exactly see a lot of suggestions on how to fix the problems you say you have, just a lot of ranting and a bit of assumption that we all feel like this.

This is what i think they should be doing, im not sure if this will happen with time or not, but i'll list them anyways.

1- Remove all instant to everywhere teleports, add an alternative to go around.

2- Add more maps, alot more, and please i dont want NPCs and buildings everywhere.

3- best gear should be crafted, meldable, and HQable, the mats should be from ALL contents in the game, some of those materials can be sold some cant.

4- add bosses to open world, no i dont mean NMs with low spawn rate, i mean just alot of bosses that pop in like 2 mins from death, and make them drop end game materials, drop rate should be extreamly low, no fear of of claim wars since theres alot of them and should be able to trio them or duo them.

5- open world dungeons would be nice... i doubt they'll ever do this tho.

6- let us have an option to go into dungeons with less than full party.

theres probably more... but thats it for now, hopefully they'll add these with time :(

Sorry for the lack of proper structure in my OP. It was actually a rant and I titled it so to not mislead anyone. I just typed out all my frustrations in one go and didn't even bother reading over it.

They need to cater to low-man and big group play as well. Big man groups should be the default. Low-man groups should be an option once people are geared and skilled enough to do it with few members.

There needs to be intrinsic value in the content. Right now we rush through content because we want nothing other than drops.
This would mean the writers having to spend more time creating the realms lore, story, identity and intricacies.

Again, I must reference XI. Look at the amount of depth in the lore there. And yes, a lot of it was available at launch.


Just a response to those who said I didn't make any suggestions. I highlighted the type of content that has proven to be successful and withstood the deterioration of time. These are better than suggestions, they're guiding principles. Macro, not the micro.

SE have been looking at all of this like pigeons pecking seeds off the ground, where what they need to do is get airborne like a hawk and look at the larger picture - "where is this going and what hurdles are we going to face". Well, that may be too late. They might actually get a sobering "How the f_ck did we mess up again?"

Personally I'm happy with 8-24 man content, know what the Problem was with dynamis and besieged? There were so many people that the area lagged to death, mobs would just stand still doing nothing then suddenly you'd be dead without knowing why cause some mob AoE'ed and you couldn't see it happening. This is already the case with Odin and behemoth and probably will be when the primal FATE's are added, I hate that Odin is a FATE cause you never get to have a decent fight with him like you do with the other primals. I'd have much rather he had been a dungeon boss. As a FATE all you see is flashy lights that envelope him cause of all the attacks on him. And you never get to see his moves cause there's so much lag. I really don't want to see much more content like this.

Just nit picking. Unless they plan to remove gear dropping from bosses (or you know go hog monkey with CT style gear drops and have one gear drop per week, for everything) this isn't possible.

The others seem fine (except for the all teleports thing. That'll just make things far more tedious. Fewer Aetherytes, sure. None at all, please...no, and the open world bosses. I want them to take a long time to spawn, then spawn at random places.)
